2017–18 East Carolina Pirates Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 East Carolina Pirates men's basketball team represented East Carolina University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Pirates were led by interim head coach Michael Perry and played their home games at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum as fourth-year members of the American Athletic Conference. They finished the season 10–20, 4–14 in AAC play to finish in 11th place. They lost in the first round of the AAC tournament to UCF. Following a 2–4 start to the season, eighth-year head coach Jeff Lebo announced his resignation from ECU on November 29, 2017 and Perry was named interim head coach. On April 4, 2018 the school announced that Florida Gulf Coast head coach Joe Dooley, who coached the Pirates from 1995 to 1999, would return as head coach. Jeff Lebo
Jeffrey Brian Lebo (born October 5, 1966) is an American basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for his alma mater, North Carolina. He was previously the head men's basketball coach at East Carolina (2010–2017), Auburn University (2004–2010), the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2002–2004), and Tennessee Tech (1998–2002). Before becoming a head coach, he spent a total of eight years as an assistant coach at South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and East Tennessee State. He also spent a season as an assistant with the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League. Formative years Lebo was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. As a high school player, he played for his father, Dave Lebo, at Carlisle High School, where he was a McDonald's All-American. The elder Lebo would later serve as an assistant to his son, at Auburn. The 2017 American Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was the conference tournament for the American Athletic Conference during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was held March 9–12, 2017, at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. Elijah Wayne Hughes (born March 10, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the CB Breogán of the Liga ACB. He played college basketball for the East Carolina Pirates and the Syracuse Orange. Early life Hughes was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and grew up in Beacon, New York.
