2017–18 CERH Women's European League
The 2017–18 CERH Women's European Cup is the 12th season of Europe's premier female club roller hockey competition organized by CERH. Format Fourteen teams joined the first round while title holders Voltregà got a wildcard for the quarterfinals. Teams Fifteen teams from six federations joined the competition. The participants were confirmed on 19 September 2017. Results The draw was held at CERH headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal, on 23 September 2017. Preliminary round The first leg was played on 11 November and the second leg on 2 December 2017. Quarterfinals The quarterfinals will be played on 20 January and 17 February 2018. Final Four The Final Four was hosted in Lisbon, Portugal. Club Patín Gijón Solimar, also known as Telecable Hockey Club by sponsorship reasons, is a Spanish professional Roller hockey (quad), roller hockey club based in Gijón, city in the autonomous community of Asturias (Spain). History Gijón Solimar was established in 1995 after the dissolution of CP Algodonera 81 and the hockey section of the Colegio de la Inmaculada (Gijón), Colegio de la Inmaculada. Its women's team started to outstand in 2003, when it finished champion of the Asturian-Galician championship, qualifying for the first time to the Spanish Championship. Gijón Solimar, with the sponsorship of Biesca, was one of the founder clubs of the OK Liga Femenina and won its first edition after earning 13 wins and only one draw. The 2017–18 CERS Cup is the 38th season of the CERS Cup, Europe's second club roller hockey competition organized by CERH. Format All the thirty two teams will play a double-legged knockout tournament with the only rule of avoiding that two teams from the same nation play together in the first round. Teams Thirty two teams from eight national associations qualified for the competition and were confirmed on 19 September 2017. League positions of the previous season shown in parentheses. The 2017–18 CERH European League was the 53rd season of Europe's premier club Roller hockey (quad), roller hockey tournament organised by Comité Européen de Rink-Hockey, CERH, and the 21st season since it was renamed from European Champion Clubs' Cup to the CERH European League, CERH Champions League/European League. Reus Deportiu were the defending champions. FC Barcelona Hoquei, Barcelona won the trophy for a record 22nd time, winning 4–2 over FC Porto (roller hockey), Porto, who lost their 9th consecutive final and 11th overall, 7 of which against Barcelona. The penalty shootout is a method of determining a winner in sports matches that would have otherwise been drawn or tied.
