2017 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Javelin Throw
The men's javelin throw at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics is being held at the Olympic Stadium on 10 and 12 August. Summary Thirteen athletes made the automatic qualifying mark to get into the final. Five throws into the first round, Johannes Vetter (GER) threw the winner, . At the end of the round, his teammate Thomas Röhler threw 87.08 m to move into second place. On the second throw of the second round, Jakub Vadlejch (CZE) threw tantalizingly close to Vetter with an 89.73 m. Three throws later, Vetter's second throw even bettered that, 89.78 m. At the end of round, Röhler improved to 88.26 m Through the next three rounds, nobody could surpass that third best throw, not even the leaders, though Petr Frydrych (CZE) threw 87.93 m twice. Edgar Andres Baumann Dure (born 16 April 1970 in San Lorenzo) is a Paraguayan former Javelin Thrower, current Javelin Coach, Sports Promoter and Businessperson. He is of German descent. Baumann won a silver medal at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina, achieving the South American record at the time with a throw of 78.70 metres, surpassing Colombia's thrower Luis Lucumi's throw of 77.80m which was held since 1989. Breaux Greer (born October 19, 1976) is a retired American track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. After attending Ouachita Parish High School and the University of Louisiana at Monroe, he went on to be the current American record holder in the event, with a throw of 91.29 m (299.5 ft), achieved on June 21, 2007, at the 2007 USA Outdoor Championships. With it, he is currently ranked as the #15 thrower in history. This was also the best throw in the world for almost eight years until surpassed by Julius Yego in 2015. He is an eight-time American Champion, consecutively from 2000 until 2007. His coach was Finnish javelin thrower Kari Ihalainen. Zhao Qinggang (; born 24 July 1985) is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. His 89.15 m personal best throw, set in 2014, is the Chinese record.
