2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Men's Omnium
The Men's omnium competition at the 2017 World Championships will be held on 15 April 2017. Results Scratch race 40 laps (10 km) were raced. Tempo race 36 sprints were held, each awarding a point to the winner; in addition, 20 points were added/subtracted for a lap gain/loss respectively. Elimination race Sprints were held every two laps; the last rider in each sprint was eliminated. Points race and final standings Riders' points from the previous 3 events were carried into the points race (consisting of 100 laps (25km)), in which the final standings were decided. Hong Kong Velodrome
Hong Kong Velodrome is a velodrome in Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong. It has a 250-metre cycling track and spectator facilities for 3,000 people. It opened on 30 December 2013 next to the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground. History The Hong Kong government agreed to build the velodrome after Wong Kam-po won the gold medal for the men's road race in the 2006 Asian Games at Doha, amid concerns that athletes who represent Hong Kong had to rely on training facilities in China. Construction of the HK$1.1 billion venue got the legislative go-ahead in January 2010 and work began two months later. On 5 November 2012, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam kicked off construction of the Tseung Kwan O Velodrome, as it was then known. The velodrome occupies 6.6 hectares, and cycling helmets inspired its wavy rooftop design. Mrs Lam officiated at the ceremony marking the start of construction. Sam Welsford OAM (born 19 January 1996) is an Australian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Cycling career Welsford's father was a keen cyclist, and Sam began joining him on rides when he was seven. Welsford worked hard at his cycling and won team pursuit junior world titles in 2013 and 2014. Christopher Jack Latham (born 6 February 1994) is an English cyclist from Bolton, who most recently rode for UCI Continental team . In 2015 he won the bronze medal in the elimination race at the 2015 UEC European Track Championships in Grenchen, Switzerland. Career He spent three seasons riding for the team before joining for 2018. Latham joined for the 2019 season. He remained with the team until the end of the 2020 season, when he joined for the 2021 season.
