2017 UCI Road World Championships – Women's Road Race
The Women's road race of the 2017 UCI Road World Championships is a cycling event that took place on 23 September 2017 in Bergen, Norway. It was won by Chantal Blaak of the Netherlands, ahead of Australian Katrin Garfoot and the defending champion, Amalie Dideriksen of Denmark. Course The race started and finished on the :no:Festplassen, Festplassen in Bergen, with the riders completing eight laps of a circuit in length. The main feature of the circuit was the climb of Salmon Hill, about into the lap; the climb was long at an average gradient of 6.4%. Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive cycling jersey, jersey worn by the reigning World Cycling Championship, world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. Hannah Mary Barnes (born 4 May 1993) is a British racing cyclist, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She is the sister of fellow racing cyclist Alice Barnes, who rides for . Career Born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, Barnes grew up in Bladon, Oxfordshire and later moved to Towcester, Northamptonshire. Leah Kirchmann (born 30 June 1990) is a Canadian racing cyclist, who rides for National Cycling League team Denver Disruptors. She competed in the 2013 UCI women's road race in Florence. At the 2014 Global Relay Canadian Road Championships, held in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, she won the road race, time trial and the criterium, becoming the first woman to win all three titles in the same year. Career Kirchmann's first sport was cross-country skiing. She continued to compete as a skier until about the age of 18. Kirchmann originally started mountain biking as summer training for ski racing. Christine Majerus (born 25 February 1987) is a Luxembourgish former professional road bicycle racing, road and cyclo-cross cyclist, who rode for UCI Women's Team, UCI Women's WorldTeam and its predecessors from 2014 until her retirement in 2024.
