2017 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Trophy
The 2017 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Trophy was the second level of international women's rugby sevens competitions organised by Rugby Europe during 2017. The competition featured two tournaments, one hosted in Ostrava and one hosted in Esztergom. Scotland won both tournaments, defeating Germany in both cup finals. Scotland and Germany were promoted to the 2018 Grand Prix series while Malta and Moldova were relegated to the 2018 Conference. The 2018 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Trophy is the second division of the 2018 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens. This edition was hosted by the cities of Dnipro and Szeged from 23 June to 1 July, with the two highest-placed teams promoted to the 2019 Grand Prix and the two teams with the fewest points relegated to the 2019 Conference. Rugby Europe
Rugby Europe is the administrative body for rugby union in Europe. It was formed in 1999 to promote, develop, organise, and administer the game of rugby in Europe under the authority of World Rugby (the sport's global governing body). However, it is not responsible for the organisation of the Six Nations Championship or the competitions run by European Professional Club Rugby (the European Rugby Champions Cup and Challenge Cup). The predecessor to Rugby Europe was the Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur (FIRA), which was established in 1934 to administer rugby union in Europe outside the authority of the International Rugby Football Board (as World Rugby was then called), and came to spread outside the continent. FIRA agreed to come under the auspices of World Rugby in the 1990s, and appended 'Association Européenne de Rugby' to its name in a return to being a European body. Esztergom ( ; german: Gran; la, Solva or ; sk, Ostrihom, known by alternative names) is a city with county rights in northern Hungary, northwest of the capital Budapest. The Scotland women's national sevens team is a minor rugby sevens team. They regularly compete at the Europe Women's Sevens. History Scott Wight was appointed as head coach in 2017. Scotland competed at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens Final Qualifier but did not qualify. Scotland were invited to the final leg of the 2018–19 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series in Biarritz, they placed eleventh in the tournament. Germany Women's National Rugby Sevens Team is a minor national sevens side. History In 2012 former national coach Susanne Wiedemann convinced the German Rugby Union, the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the German Army to contract four female rugby sevens players in preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Jenny Naruhn, Svetlana Hess, Tilla Dier and Lisa Kropp became the first "sport soldiers" in the Army, which provides high-performance development for a select few male and female athletes from different sports. They undergo basic training, followed by a few military courses annually, while getting paid to train for their sport. All sport soldiers were based in the Olympic Centre in Cologne from 2012. In addition to the full-time players, other national players were invited to move to the area to attend daily rugby and fitness sessions. Moldova Women's National Rugby Sevens Team
The Moldova women's national rugby sevens team represents Moldova in women's rugby sevens. They won the FIRA–AER Women's Sevens - Division A in 2010.
