2017 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup
The 2017 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup was the 22nd season of the Icelandic Men's League Cup, a pre-season professional football competition in Iceland. The tournament involves twenty-four clubs from the top two leagues in Iceland, Úrvalsdeild karla and 1. deild karla, and uses a combination of group and knockout rounds to determine which team is the winner of the tournament. The tournament began on 17 February and concluded with the final on 17 April 2017. KR were champions of the tournament. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (, ), commonly abbreviated to KR, is an Icelandic football club based in the Vesturbær district of the capital, Reykjavík. KR is the oldest and most successful club in Icelandic football, having won the Besta deild karla championship 27 times, including the first season in 1912. It is also the most successful club in the Icelandic men's Cup, with 14 titles including the first in 1960 and most recent in 2014. Ungmennafélagið Víkingur (, ), also known as U.M.F. Víkingur or Víkingur Ólafsvík, is an Icelandic multi-sport club from the town of Ólafsvík located on the west coast of Iceland situated on the western end of the Snæfellsnes. Jeppe Hansen (born 10 February 1989) is a retired Danish professional footballer who plays as a forward. Hansen, who began his career with his hometown club FC Fredericia, has also played for Otterup B&IK, Næsby BK and OB, as well as Icelandic sides Stjarnan, KR and Keflavík Career Hansen began his career as a youth player with his local side FC Fredericia, before making small number of appearances for the first team. After spells with lower league clubs Otterup B&IK and Otterup B&IK, he signed a one-year deal with Danish Superliga club OB, where he scored 1 goal in 8 matches. After his contract ended in May 2014, Hansen moved to Iceland, signing for Úrvalsdeild club Stjarnan. Íþróttafélagið Þór (, ), commonly known as Þór Akureyri (), or simply Þór or Thór, is a multi-sport club in Akureyri, in the north of Iceland. It features departments in basketball, football, handball and taekwondo. Its main rival is another sport club from Akureyri named KA. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur (, ), also referred to as Þróttur Reykjavík or Throttur, is a professional sports club from Reykjavík in Iceland. The club runs a association football, football department as well as Team handball, handball, volleyball and tennis departments. The club has enjoyed tremendous success in men's volleyball, winning a total of 14 Icelandic Championships since 1974. Íþróttafélagið Leiknir (, ), commonly known as Leiknir Reykjavík (), is an Icelandic multi-sport club. It is best known for its men's football section, but also fields departments in Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball and Karate. Knattspyrnudeild Keflavíkur (, ) is an Icelandic football team, commonly known as Keflavík. Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs ("Kópavogur Handball Club"), commonly abbreviated to HK, is an Icelandic sports club from the town of Kópavogur. There are six divisions within the club and they are: handball, Association football, football (soccer), volleyball, dance, table tennis and bandy. Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar (, ) is an Icelandic multi-sport club from Hafnarfjörður with divisions in Association football, Football, Haukar Handball, Handball, Basketball, Haukar RC, Rugby union, Karate, Skiing & Chess.
