2017 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship
The 2017 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship was the tenth IIHF U18 Women's World Championship in ice hockey. The tournament was played in Přerov and Zlín, Czech Republic. For the third straight year the United States defeated Canada for the gold, winning their sixth title overall. Russia defeated Sweden for the bronze, reversing the outcome of the previous year. Cayla Marie Barnes (born January 7, 1999) is an American ice hockey player for PWHL Seattle of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) and the United States women's national ice hockey team. She was drafted fifth overall by PWHL Montreal in the 2024 PWHL draft. She played college ice hockey at Boston College and Ohio State. Playing career Amateur and collegiate As a youth player, Barnes played with the Lady Ducks in California, before leaving home to attend a prep school in New Hampshire at the New Hampton School. Barnes was one of three co-captains for Boston College in the 2020–21 season, joining teammates Meagan Beres and Kelly Browne. On March 25, 2023, Barnes announced that she would be transferring to Ohio State University for the 2023–24 season. Sophie Shirley
Sophie Shirley (born June 30, 1999) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Boston Fleet of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She made her debut with the Canadian women's national team in a two-game exhibition series against the United States in December 2016. Playing career Shirley was a member of Saskatchewan's women's ice hockey team that competed in the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The team lost the bronze medal game to Manitoba by a score of 2–1 in overtime. Competing with the Canadian national under-18 team, she captured silver medals at the 2016 and 2017 IIHF World Women's U18 Championships. During the latter tournament, Shirley was named the tournament's best forward after tying for the scoring lead. Emma Buckles
Emma Buckles (born June 10, 1999) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who most recently played for PWHL Ottawa of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She played college ice hockey at Harvard. Early life Buckles attended Havergal College where she played soccer, volleyball, softball and hockey. She helped lead Havergal's varsity hockey team to three consecutive Hewitt Cups from 2015 to 2017. In grade 9, she helped start the Healthy Active Living club at Havergal. She also played junior ice hockey for the Toronto Aeros junior team. Playing career College Buckles began her collegiate career at Harvard during the 2017–18 season. Alexa Vasko
Alexa Vasko (born February 7, 1999) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward for the Ottawa Charge of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She previously played for PWHL Toronto, and played college ice hockey at Mercyhurst. Playing career College Vasko began her collegiate career for Mercyhurst during the 2018–19 season. During her freshman year, she recorded one goal and ten assists in 37 games. During the 2018–19 season in her sophomore year, she recorded 12 goals and six assists in 33 games. On May 15, 2019, Vasko was named co-captain for the 2019–20 season. In her junior year, she recorded ten goals and 17 assists in 34 games, and blocked 36 shots. Ashton Bell (born December 7, 1999) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for PWHL Vancouver of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She previously played for the Ottawa Charge of the PWHL. She played college ice hockey at Minnesota Duluth. Early life During high school, she played for the Western Wildcats of the Manitoba AAA Female Midget Hockey League, twice winning the league's Most Valuable Player Award. Anna Amholt
Anna Amholt (born 28 March 2000) is a Swedish retired ice hockey goaltender. Considered by many to be the next great goaltending talent of the Swedish national ice hockey team, her career was halted when she contracted COVID-19 in April 2020 and continued experiencing long-term symptoms. which ultimately led her to retire from ice hockey in October 2022. Playing career From 2016 to 2018, she played for Luleå HF/MSSK, splitting her time between the club's team in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) and its second side in the Damettan.
