2017 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2017 ASUN men's basketball tournament was the conference postseason tournament for the ASUN Conference. The tournament marked the 38th year the league conducted a postseason tournament. The tournament was held February 27, March 2 and 5, 2017 at campus sites as top seeds host each round. Florida Gulf Coast defeated North Florida, 77–61, in the championship game to receive the conference's automatic trip to the NCAA tournament. Seeds Teams were seeded by record within the conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. 2016–17 Florida Gulf Coast Eagles Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Florida Gulf Coast Eagles men's basketball team represented Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. FGCU played their home games at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Florida and were led by fourth-year head coach Joe Dooley as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. They finished the regular season 26–8, 12–2 in ASUN play to win the regular season championship. Conference play began on January 24, 2017 and concluded on February 23, 2017. The season marked the 39th season of ASUN Conference basketball, and also the first under the conference's current branding with the ASUN name. The 2017 ASUN women's basketball tournament was the 31st edition of the ASUN Conference championship. It took place March 3, 8 and 12, 2017 in several arenas. Florida Gulf Coast won the tournament and received an automatic trip to the NCAA women's tournament. Format The ASUN Championship is a six-day single-elimination tournament. The ASUN Conference men's basketball tournament (formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament between 1979 and 2001) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the ASUN Conference, formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) and Atlantic Sun Conference. The tournament has been held every year since 1979, except for 1992–93. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. Joseph Gerard Dooley III (born January 29, 1965) is the former head College basketball, men's basketball coach of the East Carolina University East Carolina Pirates men's basketball, Pirates, having previously served as head coach from 1995 to 1999 and 2018-2022. Dooley was an assistant on the Kansas Jayhawks 2007–08 Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team, 2007–08 NCAA national championship team and previously served as head coach at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dooley is a 1988 graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he completed his bachelor's degree in speech communications.
