2017–18 Maltese FA Trophy
The 2017–18 Maltese FA Trophy was the 80th version of the football tournament. It was sponsored by Boost Diesel, which was revealed during the draws of the first, second and third round of the Maltese FA Trophy at the Trophies Lounge in Malta Football Association headquarters in Ta' Qali. A total of sixty–four clubs participated in this season's cup competition. Floriana were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the third round by Naxxar Lions in the third round on 2 December 2017. The winners of the trophy were Valletta who won their 14th title following a 2–1 win over Birkirkara in the final. Despite losing the final, Birkirkara earned a place in the first qualifying round of the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League, as Valletta had already qualified for the a European competition following their league triumph. Floriana F
Floriana ( or ''Il-Floriana''), also known by its title Borgo Vilhena, is a fortified town in the Port Region area of Malta, just outside the capital city Valletta. It has a population of 2,205 as of March 2014. Floriana is the birthplace of many famous Maltese, amongst which the composer of the national anthem, ' L-Innu Malti', Robert Samut; former Bishop of Malta Dun Mauro Caruana, the poets Oliver Friggieri and Maria Grech Ganado, the writer and politician Herbert Ganado and Swedish Idol winner Kevin Borg. The Maltese Premier League, known as 360Sports Malta Premier for sponsorship reasons with 360Sports (colloquialism, colloquially known as ''Il-Kampjonat Premjer''), is the highest level of professional football in Malta. Managed by the Malta Football Association, the Premier League is contested by 12 teams and operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Maltese Challenge League, Challenge League. As of June 2022, the Premier League ranks 46th out of 55 members in the UEFA coefficient. Mellieħa ( ) is a large village in the Northern Region, Malta, Northern Region of Malta. It has a population of 10,087 as of March 2014. Mellieħa is also a tourist resort, popular for its sandy beaches, natural environment, and Popeye Village nearby. Etymology The name ''Mellieħa'' is derived from the Semitic root ''m-l-ħ'', which means ''salt''. Xewkija (, , pronounced and written as Casal Sceuchia) is an Local councils of Malta, administrative unit and village of Malta, on the island of Gozo. The population of Xewkija is 3,300 as of March 2014. History Xewkija, which is between Għajnsielem and the main town of Victoria, is the oldest village in Gozo. The Gozo Stadium (), formerly known as the Silver Jubilee Ground, is the main stadium of the island of Gozo, Malta. Xagħra () is an administrative unit of Malta on the island of Gozo. Nadur () is an administrative unit of Malta, located in the eastern part of the island of Gozo. Nadur is built on a plateau and is one of the largest localities in Gozo. Known as the 'second city', it spreads along a high ridge to the east of Victoria. It had a population of 4,509 as of March 2014. The word is derived from the Arabic word ‘nadara’, which means 'lookout', pretty much having the same meaning as its motto ‘Vigilant’.
