2017–18 Central Michigan Chippewas Women's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Central Michigan Chippewas women's basketball team represented Central Michigan University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Chippewas, led by eleventh year head coach Sue Guevara, played their home games at McGuirk Arena as members of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference. They finished the season 30–5, 16–1 in MAC play to win MAC West Division. They won the MAC women's tournament and earned an automatic to the NCAA women's tournament, where they upset LSU in the first round to win their first NCAA tournament win in school history, Ohio State in the second round to advanced to the sweet sixteen for the first time in school history. They lost to Oregon. With 30 wins, they finished with the most wins in school history. Sue Guevara
Susan Marie Guevara (born July 8, 1954) is the former head women's basketball coach at Central Michigan University. She previously served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Michigan from 1996 to 2003. Sue announced her retirement from CMU on July 12, 2019. Coaching career Guevara began her coaching career as an assistant at Saginaw Valley State in 1979. After five seasons, she became a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 1984, become becoming an assistant coach at Ball State in 1985. Guevara spent a decade as an assistant coach at Michigan State under Karen Langeland, including as associate head coach in the 1995–96 season. In 1996, Guevara became a head coach for the first time at Michigan. Inheriting a program whose winning percentage in the past four years was under .200, Guevara led Michigan to four consecutive postseason tournament berths, which had never occurred in program history. Churchill High School, named after Winston Churchill, is one of the four main public high schools (and the most recently built) in the city of Livonia, Michigan, a western suburb of Detroit. The school was created in 1968 as an add-on to the other high schools in Livonia in response to the population boom that the city saw at the time.
