2016–17 Yale Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Yale Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Yale University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bulldogs, led by 18th-year head coach James Jones, played their home games at John J. Lee Amphitheater of the Payne Whitney Gymnasium in New Haven, Connecticut and were members of the Ivy League. They finished the season 18–11, 10–4 in Ivy League play, to finish in third place. In the inaugural Ivy League tournament, they defeated Harvard before losing to Princeton in the championship game. Previous season The Bulldogs finished the 2015–16 season 23–7, 13–1 in Ivy League play, to win the Ivy League championship. They received the Ivy's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, their first NCAA bid since 1962, where they defeated Baylor in the first round to advance to the second round where they lost to Duke. James Jones (basketball, Born 1964)
James Fitzgerald Jones (born February 20, 1964) is an American men's college basketball coach who is the head coach at Yale University. Born on Long Island, Jones played college basketball at Albany Great Danes men's basketball, SUNY Albany and worked as a sales executive for NCR Corporation before beginning his coaching career. Jones succeeded Dick Kuchen as the 22nd men's basketball head coach of Yale University on April 27, 1999. On March 17, 2016, Jones and the Bulldogs upset the fifth-seeded Baylor University Bears in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. On March 22, 2024, Jones and the Bulldogs upset the fourth-seeded Auburn University Tigers in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. Paul Atkinson (basketball)
Paul St. Aubyn Atkinson Jr. (born March 27, 1999) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Kortrijk Spurs of the BNXT League. He played college basketball player for the Yale Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Early life Atkinson grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida and attended the Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As a junior, he led Westminster Academy to the Class 3A state championship game, where they fell to Windermere Prep. Atkinson committed to play college basketball at Yale at the beginning of his senior year after receiving interest from Dayton, UNC-Wilmington, and Richmond. Porter Ranch is a suburban neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, in the northwest portion of the San Fernando Valley. History The Porter family acquired part of Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando in 1874. Porter Ranch community started as a housing tract in the community of Northridge. Olumiye Dimolu "Miye" Oni (born August 4, 1997) is an American-Nigerian professional basketball player for Criollos de Caguas of thBSN in Puerto Rico He played college basketball for the Yale Bulldogs. Dontae Jordan Bruner (born December 31, 1997) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Tachikawa Dice of the B.League. He played college basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Yale Bulldogs. Early life and high school career Bruner was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma but moved to South Carolina at the age of 11. He attended Spring Valley High School, where he was coached by Perry Dozier.
