2016–17 Washington Capitals Season
The 2016–17 NHL season was the 43rd season for the Washington Capitals. They finished the season as Presidents' Trophy winners for the second consecutive year, and third time in team history. After defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of NHL playoffs, in the second round of NHL playoffs the Capitals faced off against, and were beaten for the second year in a row by the Pittsburgh Penguins, the eventual Stanley Cup Champions. Metropolitan Division
The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division (NHL, 1993–2013), Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division (NHL), Southeast Division. Six of its teams were previously together in the Patrick Division from 1981 to 1993 (one joined in 1982). The Washington Capitals (colloquially known as the Caps) are a professional ice hockey team based in Washington, D.C. Scotiabank Saddledome
Scotiabank Saddledome is a multi-use indoor arena in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Located in Stampede Park in the southeast end of downtown Calgary, the Saddledome was built in 1983 to replace the Stampede Corral as the home of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, and to host Ice hockey at the 1988 Winter Olympics, ice hockey and figure skating at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The facility also hosts concerts, conferences and other sporting championships, and events for the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. It underwent a major renovation in 1994–95 and sold its naming rights, during which its original name of Olympic Saddledome was changed to Canadian Airlines Saddledome. 2016–17 Calgary Flames Season
The 2016–17 Calgary Flames season was their List of Calgary Flames seasons, 37th season in Calgary, and the 45th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 6, 1972. Off-season After a season of high expectations from the 2014–15 Calgary Flames season, 2014–15 season for the Flames, those results did not carry over into the 2015–16 season. The team finished with only 77 points and failed to qualify for the 2016 NHL Playoffs. To start with, Bob Hartley was let go, and Glen Gulutzan was brought in as the new coach. The biggest question the Flames faced in the off-season was acquiring a proven number one goalie. Rogers Arena, (formerly General Motors Place), is a multi-purpose list of indoor arenas, arena at 800 Griffiths Way in the Downtown Vancouver, downtown area of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. 2016–17 Vancouver Canucks Season
The 2016–17 Vancouver Canucks season was the 47th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 22, 1970. For the third consecutive season, they opened the season with a match against the Calgary Flames. The team finished with the lowest-scoring season in franchise history, scoring just 182 goals. Rogers Place is a multi-use indoor arena in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Construction started in March 2014, and the building officially opened on September 8, 2016. The arena has a seating capacity of 18,347 as a ice hockey, hockey venue and 20,734 as a concert venue. It replaced Northlands Coliseum (opened 1974) as the home of the National Hockey League, NHL's Edmonton Oilers and the Western Hockey League, WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings. The arena is in the block between 102 and 104 Streets and 104 and 105 Avenues. Amerant Bank Arena (previously known as the National Car Rental Center, Office Depot Center, BankAtlantic Center, BB&T Center, and FLA Live Arena) is an indoor arena in Sunrise, Florida, United States. 2016–17 Colorado Avalanche Season
The 2016–17 Colorado Avalanche season was the 22nd operational season and 21st playing season for the Colorado Avalanche since the franchise relocated from Quebec prior to the start of the 1995–96 NHL season, as well as the franchise's 38th season in the National Hockey League and 45th season overall. Under first-year head coach Jared Bednar, the Avalanche got off to a respectable start, and were only two games below .500 by December 1. However, they only won a total of four games in December and January combined. By the All-Star Break, they were 13-31-2, and their season was all but finished. They would only win nine more games after that to finish 22-56-4, the worst record in the NHL.
