2016–17 UConn Huskies Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 UConn Huskies men's basketball team represented the University of Connecticut in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Huskies were led by fifth-year head coach Kevin Ollie. The Huskies split their home games between the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, and the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on the UConn campus in Storrs, Connecticut. The Huskies were members of the American Athletic Conference. UConn finished the season 16–17, 9–9 in AAC play to finish in a tie for fifth place. They defeated South Florida and Houston to advance to the semifinals of the AAC tournament where they lost to Cincinnati. Previous season The Huskies finished the 2015–16 season 25–11, 11–7 in AAC play to finish in sixth place. Kevin Ollie
Kevin Jermaine Ollie (born December 27, 1972) is an American basketball coach and former player who most recently was the interim head coach for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is the former head coach of the University of Connecticut men's basketball team and one of only four African-American coaches to ever win an NCAA men's basketball championship. Ollie graduated from UConn in 1995 with a degree in communications. He played for twelve NBA franchises, most prominently in three stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, in thirteen seasons from 1997 to 2010 after beginning his career with the CBA in 1995. After retiring from professional basketball in 2010, Ollie joined UConn as an assistant coach; in 2012 he was promoted to head coach following the retirement of Jim Calhoun (who coached Ollie when he was a player). 2015–16 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Season
The 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 13. The first early-season tournaments to begin were the Puerto Rico Tip-Off and the Charleston Classic. The season ended with the 2016 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, whose Final Four took place at NRG Stadium in Houston, Houston, Texas, on April 2, 2016, with the national championship game following on April 4. Practices officially began on October 2, 2015. Daniel Hamilton (basketball)
Daniel Domonique Hamilton (born August 8, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for Lobos Plateados de la BUAP of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional. He played college basketball for the Connecticut Huskies, and earned second-team all-conference honors in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) as a sophomore. After he decided to forgo his remaining two years of college eligibility, Hamilton was selected in the second round of the 2016 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets. His draft rights later were traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. High school career Hamilton attended Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, California, and then St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. Sterling Gibbs
Sterling Dupree Gibbs (born July 17, 1993) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Texas, Seton Hall and Connecticut. Early life and high school Gibbs was born and grew up in Scotch Plains, New Jersey and attended Seton Hall Preparatory School. He was a standout basketball player for the Pirates and averaged 20.8 points, 4.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game during his senior season and was named First Team All-State as Seton Hall won the Essex County Tournament championship, playing under legendary coach Bob Farrell.
