The 2016–17 season was Southend United's 111th year in existence and their second consecutive season in League One. Southend-on-Sea (), commonly referred to as Southend (), is a coastal city and unitary authorities of England, unitary authority area with Borough status in the United Kingdom, borough status in south-eastern Essex, England. Football League Trophy
The English Football League Trophy, officially known as the Vertu Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual English football knockout competition open to all clubs in EFL League One and EFL League Two and U-21 teams from the Premier League and the EFL Championship. Launched in the 1981–82 football season as the Football League Group Cup, it was a replacement for the Anglo-Scottish Cup, which had been discontinued after the withdrawal of Scottish League clubs. It reconstituted as Associate Members' Cup during the 1983–84 season. The competition was renamed the Football League Trophy in 1992 after a reorganisation following the formation of the Premier League and again as the current ''EFL Trophy'' in 2016 due to The Football League changing its name to the English Football League. Yeovil Town F
Yeovil () is a town and civil parish in Somerset, England. It is close to Somerset's southern border with Dorset, west of London, south of Bristol, west of Sherborne and east of Taunton. The population of the built-up area – which includes the outlying areas of the town in the parishes of West Coker, Brympton and Yeovil Without – was 50,176 at the 2021 census. Jakub Sokolík
Jakub Sokolík (born 28 August 1993) is a Czech professional footballer who plays as a defender, most recently for Torquay United. Club career Liverpool Sokolík joined the youth academy of Baník Ostrava when he was 6 years old in 1999. During his time at the academy, Sokolík attended Ostrava-Kunčice Secondary School. He then signed for the Liverpool's youth academy in 2009. Sokolík made his debut for the reserve team against Everton reserves. Mark Thomas Oxley (born 28 September 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for club Harrogate Town. Oxley began his professional career with Rotherham United in 2007 but moved to Hull City a year later. Whilst with Hull, Oxley has spent spells on loan with Walsall, Grimsby Town, Burton Albion, Oldham Athletic and Hibernian. Jermaine McGlashan
Jermaine Dave McGlashan (born 14 April 1988) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder and can play on either wing or behind the striker in an attacking midfield role. He also played up front on numerous occasions. He was recently manager of AFC Croydon Athletic as well as holding a coaching role with the Gillingham academy.
