2016–17 Southeastern Louisiana Lions Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Southeastern Louisiana Lions basketball team represented Southeastern Louisiana University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Lions, led by third-year head coach Jay Ladner, played their home games at the University Center in Hammond, Louisiana as members of the Southland Conference. They finished the season 16–16, 9–9 in Southland play to finish in seventh place. They lost in the first round of the Southland tournament to Lamar. Previous season The Lions finished the 2015–16 season 12–21, 9–9 in Southland play to finish in sixth place. Jay Ladner
Jay Ladner (born December 8, 1965) is an American basketball coach. He is the head men's basketball coach of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles men's basketball team. Playing career Ladner played college basketball at Southern Miss where he was part of the Golden Eagles' 1987 NIT Championship team. Coaching career In 1992, Ladner began coaching in the high school ranks, first at St. Stanislaus HS, where he guided the team to 10 state tournament appearances from 1992–2011 before moving on to his high school alma mater Oak Grove HS. His overall high school coaching record was 511–189 Ladner would move into the junior college ranks as the head coach at Jones County Junior College where in 2014 he led the Bobcats to the NJCAA Division I National Championship, becoming the lowest seed to ever win the national championship. 2016–17 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Rankings
Two human polls make up the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball rankings, the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll, in addition to various publications' preseason polls. Legend AP Poll USA Today Coaches Poll The Coaches Poll is the second oldest poll still in use after the AP Poll. It is compiled by a rotating group of 31 college Division I head coaches. The Poll operates by Borda count. Each voting member ranks teams from 1 to 25. Each team then receives points for their ranking in reverse order: Number 1 earns 25 points, number 2 earns 24 points, and so forth. The points are then combined and the team with the highest points is then ranked No. 1; second highest is ranked No. 2 and so forth. Only the top 25 teams with points are ranked, with teams receiving first place votes noted the quantity next to their name. The maximum points a single team can earn is 775. Don Haskins Center
The Don Haskins Center, formerly known as the Special Events Center, is the home of UTEP Miners men's and women's basketball. The venue is located in the heart of El Paso, Texas. In addition to hosting sporting events, the Don Haskins Center is also used by many area schools, such as El Paso Community College, for graduation and commencement ceremonies. 2016–17 UTEP Miners Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–16 UTEP Miners basketball team represented the University of Texas at El Paso during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Miners, led by seventh-year head coach Tim Floyd, played their home games at the Don Haskins Center as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 15–17, 12–6 in C-USA play to finish in a tie for third place. In the C-USA tournament, they defeated Rice in the quarterfinals before losing to top-seeded Middle Tennessee in the semifinals. UTEP averaged 6,400 fans per game, ranking 83rd nationally. Devlin Fieldhouse
Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse is a 4,100-seat, multi-purpose arena built in 1933 on Tulane University's Uptown campus in New Orleans, Louisiana. Since its opening, it has been home to the Tulane Green Wave men's and women's basketball teams and the women's volleyball team. Devlin is the 9th-oldest continuously active basketball venue in the nation. The 2016–17 Tulane Green Wave men's basketball team represented Tulane University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Millsaps Majors
The Millsaps Majors is the nickname for the sports teams of Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and their colors are purple and white. They participate in the NCAA's Division III and the Southern Athletic Association.
