2016–17 Seattle Redhawks Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Seattle Redhawks men's basketball team represented Seattle University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Redhawks, led by eighth-year head coach Cameron Dollar, played their home games at KeyArena and six games at the Connolly Center as members of the Western Athletic Conference. They finished the season 13–17, 5–9 WAC play to finish in fifth place. Due to Grand Canyon's postseason ineligibility, they received the No. 4 seed in the WAC tournament where they lost in the quarterfinals to Utah Valley. On March 13, 2017, the school fired head coach Cameron Dollar. His eight-year record at the school was 107–138. On March 29, the school hired Jim Hayford from in-state rival Eastern Washington as their new head coach. Cameron Dollar
Cameron Dollar (born December 9, 1975) is an American college basketball coach who was most recently an assistant coach for the Washington Huskies. He was previously an assistant coach at Washington before serving as the head coach for the Seattle Redhawks. Dollar played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins, and was a member of their 1995 national championship team. In the championship game against Arkansas, he replaced injured starter Tyus Edney. Early life Dollar was born in Atlanta. His father Donald was a longtime high school basketball coach in Georgia who won three state championships and more than 600 games. Dollar's mother was murdered in Atlanta when Cameron was four years old. Her killer has never been identified. Dollar played at Douglass High School in Atlanta as a sophomore under his father. 2016 College Basketball Invitational
The 2016 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT. The opening games and the quarterfinals were held in mid-March on the home courts of participating teams. After the quarterfinals, the bracket was reseeded for the semifinals. A best-of-three championship series was held between the two finalist teams. An experimental rule allowing players six personal fouls instead of five was used in all national postseason tournaments except for the NCAA Tournament.
