2016–17 Portland Pilots Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Portland Pilots men's basketball team represented the University of Portland during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Pilots, led by first-year head coach Terry Porter, played their home games at the Chiles Center as members of the West Coast Conference. They finished the season 11–22, 2–16 in WCC play to finish in last place. They defeated San Diego in the first round of the WCC tournament to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost to Saint Mary's. Previous season The Pilots finished the 2015–16 season 12–20, 6–12 in WCC play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the WCC tournament to Gonzaga. On March 15, 2016, the school fired head coach Eric Reveno. He finished at Portland with a 10-year record of 140–178. On April 1, the school announced that Terry Porter had been hired as head coach. Terry Porter
Terry Porter (born April 8, 1963) is an American former college basketball coach and former player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the Portland Pilots, University of Portland. A native of Wisconsin, he played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point before being drafted 24th by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1985 NBA draft. In Portland, he played ten seasons with two NBA All-Star Game, All-Star Game appearances. Porter spent 17 years in the NBA as a player. Following his retirement as a player in 2002, he began coaching in the league. Porter has twice been a head coach, first with his hometown Milwaukee Bucks and then with the Phoenix Suns. Central Catholic High School is a Catholic college prep school located in Portland, Oregon. It is the only archdiocesan high school in the Archdiocese of Portland. History Central Catholic was founded 1934 by Archbishop Edward Howard as a diocesan high school for boys. In 1930, St. Mary's Cemetery was closed and the interments were relocated, mostly to Mount Calvary, and Central Catholic High School was built on the site of the old cemetery. During the Great Depression, Central Catholic High School recruited players from all over the Portland metro area and faced significant challenges in securing funding to build the high school. Parkrose High School
Parkrose High School (PHS) is a public high school in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is the only high school in the Parkrose School District. Academics In 2008, 72% of the school's seniors received a high school diploma. Of 231 students, 167 graduated, 27 dropped out, ten received a modified diploma, and 27 were still in high school the following year. These numbers have gotten slightly better (and higher than the state average), with, in 2014, a 78% on-time graduation rate for seniors and 34 dropping out.
