2016–17 Penn Quakers Women's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Penn Quakers women's basketball team represented the University of Pennsylvania during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Quakers, led by eighth year head coach Mike McLaughlin, played their home games at the Palestra and were members of the Ivy League. The team was picked by the Ivy League in the pre-season to be conference champions. They finished the season 22–8, 13–1 to win the Ivy League regular season title and their first ever Ivy League Tournament to earn an automatic trip to the NCAA women's tournament, where they had a 21 point lead before losing to Texas A&M in the first round. Mike McLaughlin (basketball)
Mike McLaughlin (born 1966) is the women's basketball coach for the University of Pennsylvania since 2009. For his basketball playing career, McLaughlin reached the first round of the 1989 NAIA men's basketball tournament while at Holy Family College. From 1989 to 1992, he continued to play basketball with the Washington Generals. After becoming the women's basketball coach for Holy Family in 1995, McLaughlin's team were in the Elite Eight of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship four times from 1998 to 2002. After the NAIA school moved to the NCAA in 2003, McLaughlin and Holy Family reached the final of the Northeast Regional during the 2008 NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament. Kirby Sports Center
Kirby Sports Center is a 2,453-seat multi-purpose arena in Easton, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1973 and is home to the Lafayette College Leopards basketball team. Ryan Center
Ryan Center is an 8,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Kingston, Rhode Island, United States. The arena opened as a replacement for Keaney Gymnasium, which was built in 1953 for the needs of a much smaller student population at URI. It is home to the University of Rhode Island Rams basketball. The building is named for Thomas M. Ryan, Class of 1975, former CEO of Rhode Island–based CVS Pharmacy and lead benefactor of the arena.
