2016–17 NHL Suspensions And Fines
The following is a list of all suspensions and fines enforced in the National Hockey League (NHL) during the 2016–17 NHL season. It lists which players or coaches of what team have been punished for which offense and the amount of punishment they have received. Based on each player's average annual salary, divided by number of days in the season (180) for first time offenders and games (82) for repeat offenders, salary will be forfeited for the term of their suspension. Players' money forfeited due to suspension or fine goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund, while money forfeited by coaches, staff or organizations as a whole go to the NHL Foundation. Suspension refers to a temporary removal or exclusion from a position or activity, which can include the workplace, school, public office, clergy, or sports. It may be either paid or unpaid and is typically imposed to allow for an investigation or as a disciplinary measure for infractions of rules or policies. Workplace Suspension is a common practice in the workplace for being in violation of an organization's policy, or major breaches of policy. Work suspensions occur when a business manager or supervisor deems an action of an employee, whether intentional or unintentional, to be a violation of policy that should result in a course of punishment, and when the employee's absence during the suspension period does not affect the company. Austin Czarnik (born December 12, 1992) is an American professional ice hockey center who is currently playing for Lausanne HC of the National League (NL). Undrafted, Czarnik has played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, New York Islanders, Seattle Kraken and Detroit Red Wings. High-sticking
High-sticking can refer to two infractions in the sport of ice hockey. As a non-penalty foul, high-sticking the puck is defined in Rule 80 of the rules of the National Hockey League. It may occur when a player intentionally or inadvertently plays the puck with their stick above the height of the shoulders or the crossbar of a hockey goal. This can result in a stoppage of play. As a penalty, high-sticking is defined in Rule 60 of the rules of the National Hockey League. It may occur when a player hits an opponent's head, face, or neck with their stick in an action judged not to be the result of normal play. Henrik Lundqvist
Henrik Lundqvist (; born 2 March 1982) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New York Rangers. Before winning the Vezina Trophy in 2012, he was nominated in each of his first three seasons, and is the only goaltender in NHL history to record eleven 30-win seasons in his first twelve seasons. He holds the record for most wins by a European-born goaltender in the NHL. His dominating play during his rookie season resulted in the New York media and Rangers fans giving him the nickname "King Henrik". Logan Couture
Logan Couture (born March 28, 1989) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He played his entire National Hockey League (NHL) career with the San Jose Sharks, who selected him ninth overall in the 2007 NHL entry draft, and where he established himself as one of the best Stanley Cup playoffs performers of his generation. Cross-checking
Cross-checking is an infraction in the sport of ice hockey, ringette, and lacrosse where a player checks an opponent by using the shaft of their stick with both hands. This article deals chiefly with ice hockey. In the rules of the National Hockey League, cross-checking is defined in Rule 59, while the International Ice Hockey Federation rules define it in Rule 127. While body checking is allowed in boys and men's ice hockey, the use of the stick increases the risk of injury to an opponent. The most common penalty is a two-minute minor, served by the offender. However under certain circumstances the referee may assess a major penalty (plus an automatic game misconduct) or a match penalty if the action is judged to be an attempt to injure the player. Chris VandeVelde (born March 15, 1987) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He last played for EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL).
