2016–17 Morehead State Eagles Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Morehead State Eagles men's basketball team represented Morehead State University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Eagles, led by interim head coach Preston Spradlin, played their home games at Ellis Johnson Arena in Morehead, Kentucky as members of the East Division of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Eagles finished the season 14–16, 10–6 in OVC play to finish in second place in the East Division. In the OVC tournament they lost to Murray State in the quarterfinals. On November 22, 2016, Morehead State suspended head coach Sean Woods with pay while the school investigated complaints made against Woods. Assistant coach Preston Spradlin was named interim head coach. On December 15, two days after Woods was charged with misdemeanor battery in Indiana for allegedly assaulting two of his players during a game versus Evansville, it was announced that Woods had resigned. Preston Spradlin
Preston Spradlin is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach at James Madison University. He previously served as the head coach at Morehead State University. Coaching career After a playing career at NAIA Alice Lloyd College, Spradlin joined John Calipari's staff at Kentucky as a graduate assistant from 2009 to 2011, and assistant director of basketball operations from 2011 to 2014. He also aided Calipari with the Dominican Republic national basketball team in 2011 and 2012. Spradlin joined Sean Woods's staff at Morehead State in 2014 as an assistant coach, and was elevated to interim head coach when Woods resigned amid player allegations that he had assaulted them. After going 12–9 in the interim role, and guiding the Eagles to a 10–6 conference record in Ohio Valley Conference play in the East Division, Spradlin was given the job on a permanent basis. 2016 College Basketball Invitational
The 2016 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT. The opening games and the quarterfinals were held in mid-March on the home courts of participating teams. After the quarterfinals, the bracket was reseeded for the semifinals. A best-of-three championship series was held between the two finalist teams. An experimental rule allowing players six personal fouls instead of five was used in all national postseason tournaments except for the NCAA Tournament. Indianapolis Cathedral
Cathedral High School is a private Roman Catholic Church, Catholic high school in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school serves approximately 1,200 students in grades 9 to 12. The school was founded in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Archdiocese of Indianapolis by Bishop Joseph Chartrand in 1918 and was run by the Brothers of Holy Cross until it became independent by the late 1970s. Holy Cross returned to the school in 2011. History The school was founded as a boys high school by the Brothers of Holy Cross in 1918. In the 1970s, with the departure of the Brothers, a non-profit trust was developed by Robert V. Welch, other parents, and a lay board in an effort to keep Cathedral alive. As part of that change, the school moved from its longtime home in downtown Indianapolis to its present location at 56th and Emerson streets, the site of the former all-girls Ladywood St. Agnes Academy.
