The 2016–17 Mid-American Conference women's basketball season began with practices in October 2016, followed by the start of the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season in November. Conference play began in January 2017 and concluded in March 2017. 2016–17 Central Michigan Chippewas women's basketball team, Central Michigan won the regular season title with a record of 15–3 by one game over 2016–17 Ball State Cardinals women's basketball team, Ball State. 2017 Women's National Invitation Tournament
The 2017 Women's National Invitation Tournament was an annual single-elimination tournament of 64 NCAA Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2017 Women's NCAA tournament. The tournament committee announced the 64-team field on March 13, following the selection of the NCAA Tournament field. The tournament began on March 15 and ended on April 1, with the championship game televised on the CBS Sports Network.
