2016–17 Miami RedHawks Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Miami RedHawks men's basketball team represented Miami University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The RedHawks, led by fifth-year head coach John Cooper (basketball), John Cooper, played their home games at Millett Hall, as members of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. They finished the season 11–21, 4–14 in MAC play to finish in last place. As the No. 12 seed in the 2017 MAC men's basketball tournament, MAC tournament, they lost in the first round to 2016-17 Western Michigan Broncos men's basketball team, Western Michigan. Head coach John Cooper was fired on March 10, 2017 after five seasons at Miami. John Cooper (basketball)
John Anthony Cooper (born February 16, 1969) is an American college basketball coach who is an assistant coach at Oklahoma State. He was the head men's basketball coach at Miami RedHawks men's basketball, Miami University, accepting the position on April 6, 2012 after Charlie Coles announced his retirement. He was let go by the university at the end of the 2016–17 season. Prior to accepting the Job at Miami, Cooper was the head coach at Tennessee State University from 2009–2012. Marcus Joe Weathers (born August 5, 1997) is an American basketball player who last played for Trefl Sopot of the Polish Basketball League. He played college basketball for the Miami RedHawks, Duquesne University for about three seasons, and spent his last year of eligibility at SMU Mustangs. Michael Weathers
Michael Weathers (born August 5, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for MLP Academics Heidelberg of the Basketball Bundesliga. He played college basketball for the Miami RedHawks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Southern Tigers and SMU Mustangs. Weathers was selected as the Austrian Basketball Superliga Most Valuable Player while playing for the Klosterneuburg Dukes in 2024.
