2016–17 LEN Champions League
The 2016–17 LEN Champions League was the 54th edition of LEN's premier competition for men's water polo clubs. It ran from 30 September 2016 to 27 May 2017. Team allocation 8 teams are directly qualified for the preliminary round. Round and draw dates The schedule of the competition is as follows. Qualifying rounds Qualification I Fifteen teams take part in the Qualification round I. They were drawn into three groups of four teams and one group of three teams, whose played on 30 September−2 October 2016. Top 2 teams of each group advance to qualification round II. Group A Tournament was played in Oradea, Romania. Group B Tournament was played in Budapest, Hungary. Group C Tournament was played in Porto, Portugal. LEN Champions League
The European Aquatics Champions League is the top-tier European professional water polo club competition with teams from up to 18 countries. It is organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation. The competition started in 1963 as European Cup. A change of name and format occurred in 1996, with the competition being renamed Champions League and the final four system being established as the format of choice, for the first time during the 1996–97 LEN Champions League. From 2003 to 2011 the competition was named LEN Euroleague (with the change of name being simply a re-branding) and from 2011 to 2024 was named the LEN Champions League. From 2024, after Ligue Européenne de Natation, LEN was renamed to European Aquatics, the new name is the European Aquatics Champions League. Egri VK
Egri Vízilabda Klub () is a Hungary, Hungarian water polo club based in Eger. One of the dominant teams in the country since the late 2000s, Eger won the national championship in 2011,2013,2014 and came in second in 2012. They also collected the gold medal in the Hungarian cup in 1972 and 2007. Beside the domestic successes they also finished runners-up in the LEN Cup in 2008. Orvosegyetem SC
Orvosegyetem Sport Club is a Hungarian professional water polo club from Budapest established in 1957 in the Semmelweis University. The club's peak was the 1970s. Orvosegyetem won six national championships in a row between 1969 and 1974, and in 1973 it won the European Cup, beating 4-times champion Partizan Belgrade in the final. In 1974 and 1975 also reached the European Cup's final, but lost to MGU Moscow and Partizan respectively. In 1976 it played its fourth European final, losing the Cup Winners' Cup to Mladost Zagreb. In 1978 and 1979 the team culminated its golden era winning its seventh national championship and its second European Cup. The team declined in subsequent years, but it still played in the Hungarian First Championship. PVK Jadran is a professional water polo club based in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. As of 2021–22 season, the club competes in the Montenegrin League and Regional League A1.
