2016–17 Illinois State Redbirds Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Illinois State Redbirds men's basketball team represented Illinois State University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Redbirds, led by fifth-year head coach Dan Muller, played their home games at Redbird Arena in Normal, Illinois as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. They finished the season 28–7, 17–1 in conference play, to finish in a tie for first place. As the number one seed in the MVC tournament, they defeated Evansville in their quarterfinal game and Southern Illinois in their semifinal game before being beaten by Wichita State in the final. Although not winning the conference tournament, the Redbirds held the tie-breaker for the regular season title and, as a result, received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament. 2017 National Invitation Tournament
The 2017 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2017 NCAA tournament. The annual tournament was played on campus sites in the first three rounds (the host team being the team with the higher seeding), with the semifinals and championship game being held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The tournament began on Tuesday, March 14 and ended on Thursday, March 30. The NIT Selection Show aired Sunday March 12 on ESPNU. Experimental rules In February 2017, the NCAA approved a number of experimental rule changes for use in this tournament: * Team fouls were reset to zero at the end of every 10-minute segment of each half (officially at 9:59). 2015–16 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Season
The 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 13. The first early-season tournaments to begin were the Puerto Rico Tip-Off and the Charleston Classic. The season ended with the 2016 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, whose Final Four took place at NRG Stadium in Houston, Houston, Texas, on April 2, 2016, with the national championship game following on April 4. Practices officially began on October 2, 2015. The UCF Knights men's basketball team represents The University of Central Florida, located in unincorporated Orange County, Florida near Orlando, United States. Flower Mound is an incorporated town located in Denton and Tarrant counties in the U.S. state of Texas. Nick Banyard (born February 16, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for Darkhan United of The League. He played college basketball for New Mexico, Illinois State, and UCF. High school career Banyard attended Edward S. Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, playing basketball alongside top recruit and future National Basketball Association (NBA) player Marcus Smart.
