2016–17 Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Houston Cougars men's basketball team represented the University of Houston during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cougars were led by third-year head coach Kelvin Sampson and were members of the American Athletic Conference. The Cougars played their home games at Hofheinz Pavilion. They finished the season 21–11, 12–6 in AAC play to finish in third place. They lost to UConn in the quarterfinals of the AAC tournament. Kelvin Sampson
Kelvin Dale Sampson (born October 5, 1955) is an American college basketball coach, currently the head coach for the University of Houston of the Big 12 Conference. Early life Sampson was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina, to parents who were members of the Lumbee Native American community of Deep Branch in Robeson County, North Carolina, in which he was reared. Sampson excelled in the classroom and the athletic arena during his prep days at Pembroke High School, in Pembroke, North Carolina. Sampson was captain of his high school basketball team for two years, and played for his father John W. "Ned" Sampson, who was later named to the UNC Pembroke Athletics Hall of Fame. His father was also one of the 500 Lumbee Native Americans who made national news by driving the Ku Klux Klan out of Maxton, North Carolina in what is annually celebrated by the Lumbee as the Battle of Hayes Pond. 2015–16 Tulane Green Wave Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Tulane Green Wave men's basketball team represented Tulane University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Green Wave, led by sixth-year head coach Ed Conroy, played their home games at Devlin Fieldhouse and were second year members of the American Athletic Conference. They finished the season 12–22, 3–15 in AAC play to finish in last place. They defeated UCF and Houston in the AAC tournament to advance to the semifinals before losing to Memphis. Blinn College is a public junior college in Brenham, Texas, with additional campuses in Bryan, Schulenburg, Sealy, and Waller. Brenham is Blinn's original and main campus, with housing and athletics. History Blinn was founded in 1884 as Mission Institute by local minister Carl Urbantke with an original class of three ministerial students. Devonta Pollard
Devonta Pollard (born July 7, 1994) is an American professional basketball player who plays for Ensenada Lobos of the Circuito de Baloncesto del Pacífico (CIBAPAC). A 6'8 power forward, Pollard played college basketball for Alabama, East Mississippi Community College and Houston. Early life Pollard grew up in the small town of Porterville, Mississippi. His mother, Jessie Mae, played one season in the Women's Professional Basketball League before it folded in 1981, at which point she returned to Porterville and became a high school history teacher. His father, Ervin, was a forklift driver at a paper plant before he died of pancreatic cancer when Pollard was in high school. The BYU Cougars men's basketball team represents Brigham Young University in NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, NCAA Division I basketball play. It currently competes in the Big 12 Conference. The Auburn Tigers men's basketball program is the intercollegiate men's basketball team that represents Auburn University.
