The 2016–17 FC Krylia Sovetov Samara season is the club's second season back in the Russian Premier League, the highest tier of association football, football in Russia, since their relegation at the end of the 2013–14 FC Krylia Sovetov Samara season, 2013–14 season, and 22nd in total. PFC Krylia Sovetov Samara () is a Russian professional football club based in Samara that plays in the Russian Premier League. In 2004, they finished third in the Russian Premier League. History Krylia Sovetov was founded in Kuybyshev (now Samara) in 1942. On 21 April 1946 the team played its first match in the highest division in the USSR in Alma-Ata, in which they lost 1–2 to Zenit Leningrad. Krylia Sovetov participated in 48 seasons of the Soviet Top League and 13 in the Russian Premier League, as well as 43 USSR Cups and 13 Russian Cups. Ivan Nikolayevich Taranov (; born 22 June 1986) is a Russian former football defender. Club career Spotted playing at a footballing school in Prokhladny, Taranov was spirited away to a boarding school by Black Sea side FC Chernomorets Novorossiysk where he spent two years learning his craft. After a season in the Novorossiysk side's reserve team in 2001 Taranov opted to move on to Moscow to join CSKA's reserves.
