The 2016–17 season was Everton F.C., Everton's 63rd consecutive season in the English football league system, top flight of English football and their 139th year in existence. Maarten Stekelenburg
Maarten Stekelenburg (; born 22 September 1982) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Stekelenburg began his career at Ajax, playing 282 matches over nine seasons in his first spell there and winning nine honours, including two Eredivisie titles. He went on to play for Roma, Fulham, Monaco, Southampton and Everton. He returned to Ajax after the expiry of his contract at Everton following the 2019–20 Premier League season. Stekelenburg made his debut for the Netherlands national team in 2004, and earned 63 caps in total. Midfielder (association Football)
In the sport of association football, a midfielder takes an outfield position primarily in the middle of the pitch. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. As central midfielders often go across boundaries, with mobility and passing ability, they are often referred to as deep-lying midfielders, play-makers, box-to-box midfielders, or holding midfielders. Morgan Schneiderlin
Morgan Fernand Gérard Schneiderlin (; born 8 November 1989) is a French former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Schneiderlin began his career with Strasbourg, before moving to England to join Southampton in June 2008. He made 261 appearances across all competitions in seven seasons at the club, and was in the teams which earned consecutive promotions to reach the Premier League. Matthew Pennington (born 6 October 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Bradford City. He has also played for Everton and Shrewsbury Town, with loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Coventry City, Walsall, Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Hull City. Mason Anthony Holgate (born 22 October 1996) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or right-back. He is currently a free agent. Séamus Coleman ( ; born 11 October 1988) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for and captains both club Everton and the Republic of Ireland national team. Originally a Gaelic footballer, Coleman started his association football career with St Catherine's in Killybegs. Philip Nikodem Jagielka ( or ;, ; born 17 August 1982) is an English former professional Association football, footballer who played as a centre-back. He is primarily known for his lengthy tenures at Sheffield United and Everton. Jagielka came up through the youth ranks at Sheffield United F.C., Sheffield United.
