The 2016–17 season was Everton F.C., Everton's 63rd consecutive season in the English football league system, top flight of English football and their 139th year in existence. They participated in the 2016–17 Premier League, Premier League, 2016–17 FA Cup, FA Cup, 2016–17 EFL Cup, League Cup and EFL Trophy, League Trophy. Maarten Stekelenburg
Maarten Stekelenburg (; born 22 September 1982) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Stekelenburg began his career at Ajax, playing 282 matches over nine seasons in his first spell there and winning nine honours, including two Eredivisie titles. He went on to play for Roma, Fulham, Monaco, Southampton and Everton. He returned to Ajax after the expiry of his contract at Everton following the 2019–20 Premier League season. In the sport of association football, a midfielder takes an outfield position primarily in the middle of the pitch. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. Morgan Schneiderlin
Morgan Fernand Gérard Schneiderlin (; born 8 November 1989) is a French former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Schneiderlin began his career with Strasbourg, before moving to England to join Southampton in June 2008.
