2016–17 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Season
The 2016–17 CAA men's basketball season marked the 32nd season of Colonial Athletic Association basketball. The season began with practices in October 2016, followed by the start of the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play began in late December and concluded in late February. On February 23, 2017, UNC Wilmington clinched the regular season CAA championship, their third consecutive CAA championship. The College of Charleston finished in second place. The CAA tournament was held from March 3–6, 2017 at North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina. UNC Wilmington defeated College of Charleston to win the tournament championship, their second consecutive tournament championship. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a nonprofit organization that regulates College athletics in the United States, student athletics among about 1,100 schools in the United States, and Simon Fraser University, 1 in Canada. Zach Spiker
Zachary John Spiker (born September 30, 1976) is an American college basketball coach and the current head basketball coach for the Drexel Dragons. A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, Spiker played college basketball at Ithaca College. He was previously the head coach at Army. He attended The Hill School. In the 2012–13 season, Spiker lead Army to its first overall winning record since 1984–85 (a drought of 28 years), and also the Black Knights' first ever winning record in the Patriot League. For his efforts, Spiker was named 2012-13 Patriot League Coach of the Year, the first Army head coach in eleven years to win the award. Joe Mihalich
Joseph Anthony Mihalich (born August 29, 1956) is an American former college basketball coach and current Special Assistant to the Head Coach at La Salle University. Mihalich was previously the men's basketball head coach at Hofstra University from 2013–2021. Prior to that, he led Niagara to two NCAA tournaments, in 2005 and 2007, and three NIT Tournaments, in 2004, 2009 and 2013. He received the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award in 2013. The Davidson Wildcats basketball team is the basketball team that represents Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, in the NCAA. Matt Matheny
Matt Matheny (born February 11, 1970) is an American college basketball coach who most recently served as the men's head coach at Elon University. He replaced Ernie Nestor in March 2009. Matheny led the Phoenix to a 21-12 record in 2012-13, the most victories in a single season by the program at the Division I level and most since the 1973-74 season. Matheny helped Elon win the Southern Conference North Division title in 2013, the program's first division crown since 2006. The Army Black Knights men's basketball team represents the United States Military Academy in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Men's Basketball team is the college basketball, intercollegiate men's basketball program representing the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, United States. The Clemson Tigers men's basketball team is a college basketball program that represents Clemson University and competes in the NCAA Division I. Earl Grant (basketball)
Earl Grant (born December 25, 1976) is an American college basketball coach and the current head coach for the Boston College Eagles men's basketball team. Prior to being named head coach at Boston College, Grant served as head coach at the College of Charleston, as an assistant coach at Clemson University, and an assistant coach for six years under former Charleston assistant coach Gregg Marshall at Wichita State and Winthrop University. Martin Ingelsby
Martin Ingelsby (born November 24, 1978) is an American college basketball coach and the current head coach for the University of Delaware. Ingelsby played basketball at Archbishop Carroll High School and Notre Dame. He was a standout point guard, starting for three seasons for the Fighting Irish. Following the close of his college career, Inglesby pursued a coaching career, landing at Wagner for one season before returning to his alma mater as the coordinator of basketball operations in 2003. The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. The school's team was first fielded on the 1905–06 season, and currently competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) since 2001.
