2016–17 Chattanooga Mocs Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Chattanooga Mocs basketball team represented the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mocs, led by second-year head coach Matt McCall, played their home games at the McKenzie Arena and were members of the Southern Conference. They finished 19–12, 10–8 in SoCon play to finish for fourth place. In the SoCon tournament, they lost to Wofford in the quarterfinals. On March 29, 2017, head coach Matt McCall left the program to take the head coaching job at UMass. On April 3, the Mocs hired Wisconsin assistant Lamont Paris as the new head coach. Previous season The Mocs finished the 2015–16 season 29–6, 15–3 in SoCon play to win the SoCon regular season championship. They defeated Samford, Western Carolina, and East Tennessee State to win the SoCon tournament. Matt McCall (basketball)
Matthew Wayne McCall (born December 12, 1981) is an American college basketball coach. He was the head men's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass). Coaching career McCall was a student manager at the University of Florida during the 2002–03 season. He was named head manager the following year. After graduating, he continued working with the program, and in 2006 he was named director of basketball operations. In 2008, he was hired as an assistant coach at Florida Atlantic. He held that position until 2011, when he was hired by the University of Florida as an assistant. McCall was hired by Chattanooga in April 2015 after Will Wade left to take the head coaching job at VCU. Lenoir City is a suburban city located in Loudon County, Tennessee. The population was 10,117 at the 2020 census. It is included in the Knoxville metropolitan area in East Tennessee, along the Tennessee River southwest of Knoxville.
