2016–17 Al-Shorta SC Season
The 2016–17 season was Al-Shorta's 43rd season in the Iraqi Premier League, having featured in all 42 previous editions of the competition. Al-Shorta participated in the 2016–17 Iraqi Premier League, Iraqi Premier League and the 2016–17 Iraq FA Cup, Iraq FA Cup. They entered this season having finished in a disappointing seventh place in the league in the 2015–16 Iraqi Premier League, 2015–16 season. They were much better during this season, and were still in contention for the league title on the final day of the campaign, but a loss to Al-Mina'a SC, Al-Minaa saw them finish in third place and miss out on continental qualification. They were knocked out of the Iraq FA Cup at the Round of 32 stage, losing at home to lower division side Al-Jaish FC (Iraq), Al-Jaish; that defeat led to the sacking of manager Mohamed Youssef (football), Mohamed Youssef in March, who was replaced by Nadhum Shaker. Al-Shorta Sports Club () is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Iraq, Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. It has teams in 19 different sports, and the best known section of the club is the football team, whose origins date back to 1932. Al-Shorta was formally established as a sports club in 1978 after a clubs-only policy was introduced to Iraqi football. Al-Shorta's football team is one of the most successful in Iraq, having won the Iraq Stars League seven times and the Iraq FA Cup once, completing the domestic Double (association football), double in the 2023–24 Al-Shorta SC season, 2023–24 season. Hussein Abdul-Wahid Waham
Hussein Abdul-Wahid () (born on 28 February 1985 in Baghdad, Iraq) is a former Iraqi football midfielder. He last played for Al-Shorta SC in Iraq where he was the club's captain. Career A defensive midfielder that was on the fringes of Yahya Alwan’s Olympic team a couple of years ago. He played for Al-Sinaa and Zakho but finally made a name for himself at Al-Zawraa. Mahdi Kamil Shiltagh (; born 6 January 1995) is an Iraqi professional midfielder who plays for Al-Talaba and the Iraq national football team.
