2016–17 ASUN Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2016–17 ASUN Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2016, followed by the start of the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play began on January 24, 2017 and concluded on February 23, 2017. The season marked the 39th season of ASUN Conference basketball, and also the first under the conference's current branding with the ASUN name. Florida Gulf Coast won the regular season championship by one game over Lipscomb. The ASUN tournament was held from February 27 through March 5 at campus sites as top seeds hosted each round. Florida Gulf Coast defeated North Florida in the championship game to win the tournament championship. As a result, Florida Gulf Coast received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Joe Dooley (basketball)
Joseph Gerard Dooley III (born January 29, 1965) is the former head College basketball, men's basketball coach of the East Carolina University East Carolina Pirates men's basketball, Pirates, having previously served as head coach from 1995 to 1999 and 2018-2022. Dooley was an assistant on the Kansas Jayhawks 2007–08 Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team, 2007–08 NCAA national championship team and previously served as head coach at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dooley is a 1988 graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he completed his bachelor's degree in speech communications. Anthony Shey Tarke (born May 27, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League. He played college basketball player for the NJIT Highlanders, UTEP Miners and Coppin State Eagles. He was named the MEAC Player of the Year for the 2020–21 season. Damon Nariq Lynn (born March 5, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for the KW Titans of the NBL Canada. High school career Lynn attended Union Catholic Regional High School, where he averaged over 24 points per game as a senior. His father, Al-Tariq Lynn, was on the 1991 Hillside High School state championship team. LIU Brooklyn was the first Division I team to offer Lynn a scholarship. Kendrick John Ray (born January 26, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for Mykonos of the Greek Basketball League. The 2017 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the men's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball national champion for the 2016–17 season.
