2016 São Paulo Mayoral Election
The 2016 São Paulo municipal election took place in the city of São Paulo on the 2 October 2016. Voters voted to elect the Mayor, the Vice Mayor and 55 City Councillors for the administration of the city. The result was a 1st round victory for João Doria of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party, Brazilian Social Democratic Party (PSDB), winning 3,085,187 votes and a share of 53,28% of the popular vote, defeating incumbent mayor Fernando Haddad of the Workers' Party (Brazil), Workers' Party (PT), who took 967,190 votes and a share of 16,70% of the popular vote. Although Haddad came in second place on the popular vote, he did not win any electoral zone, while Marta Suplicy (PMDB), who came in fourth place, managed to win a plurality of the votes in 2 electoral zones. João Doria
João Agripino da Costa Doria Júnior (; born 16 December 1957) is a Brazilian politician, businessman and journalist who served as Governor of São Paulo, from January 2019 to April 2022. He previously served as the 52nd Mayor of São Paulo from 1 January 2017 to his resignation on 16 December 2018. He was the first mayor in 24 years to be elected in the first round. Doria was a member of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), and is known for having hosted the TV show ''O Aprendiz'', a Brazilian version of '' The Apprentice''. Doria resigned the office of mayor in April 2018 to run for Governor of São Paulo. Brazilian Labour Renewal Party
The Brazilian Labour Renewal Party (, PRTB) is a conservative Brazilian political party. It was founded in 1994 and its electoral number is 28. According to the party's official website, the PRTB's main ideology is participatory economics: "to establish an economic system based on participatory decision making as the primary economic mechanism for allocation in society". Overview It comes from members of the extinct Renovator Labour Party, a party that functioned between 1985 and 1993, which had merged with the Social Labour Party, originating the Progressive Party. Patriota
Patriota (, ), abbreviated PATRI and formerly known as the National Ecological Party (, abbreviated PEN), was a right-wing to far-right political party in Brazil. It was registered in the Superior Electoral Court in the summer of 2012. The last president of the party was the former State Deputy of São Paulo (state), São Paulo Adilson Barroso, who before creating PEN was a member of the Social Christian Party (Brazil), Social Christian Party. The party's Superior Electoral Court identification number was 51. The Social Christian Party (, PSC) was a Christian-conservative political party in Brazil. In the 2018 election, the party elected 2 Governors, 1 Senator, 9 Federal Deputies and 30 State Deputies. In 2022, it announced plans to merge with Podemos. The merge was approved by the Superior Electoral Court on 15 June 2023. History The party was founded in 1985, as a Christian democratic party. The party supported Fernando Collor de Mello in the presidential election of 1989, and in 1990, the party won first place in the state election for Alagoas, the home state of then-President Collor. The Brazilian Labour Party (, PTB) was a political party in Brazil registered in 1981. It was the seventh largest political party in Brazil with more than a million affiliated as of 2022. The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. The Republicans (), formerly the Brazilian Republican Party (, PRB) and originally formed as the Municipalist Renewal Party (, PMR), is a Brazilian political party. Solidarity ( Portuguese: ''Solidariedade'', ) is a Brazilian social-democratic political party that uses the TSE number 77. The party elected 13 deputies and one senator in the 2018 Brazilian general election. In the 2022 Brazilian general election, Solidarity supported the pre-candidacy of Lula da Silva in the 2022 Brazilian general election under the alliance Let's go together for Brazil. It remains allied with the Workers Party & other coalition members.
