2016 European Ladies' Team Championship
The 2016 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 5–9 July at Oddur Golf Club in Garðabær, Iceland. It was the 33rd women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue Oddur Golf Club was established in 1990 with a nine-hole course designed by Hannes Thorsteinsson, located in the municipality of Garðabær, 6 kilometres south of the city center of Reykjavík, Iceland. It was extended to the Urriðavöllur 18-hole-course in 1997, a heathland course flanked by lava from the dormant volcano Búrfell (Hafnarfjörður), Búrfell. The championship course was set up with par 72. Format All participating teams played two qualification rounds of Stroke play, stroke-play with six players, counted the five best scores for each team. Garðabær
Garðabær () is a town and municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland. History Garðabær is a growing town in the Capital Region. It is the fifth largest municipality in Iceland with a population of 20,116 (1 January 2025). The site of Garðabær has been inhabited since Iceland was first settled in the 9th century. Landnámabók, the Book of Settlement, tells of two farms on the site of Garðabær: Vífilsstaðir and Skúlastaðir. Stroke Play
Stroke play is a scoring system in the sport of golf. In the regular form of stroke play, also known as medal play, the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In a regular stroke play competition, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Other forms of stroke play include Stableford, whereby points are gained based on hole scores, maximum score, in which there is a limit to the number of strokes that may be taken on each hole, and Par (golf scoring format), par (or bogey), where holes are won or lost against a target score on each hole. Emma Broze (born 20 August 1995) is a French professional golfer who plays on the U.S.-based Epson Tour where she won the 2021 Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic. As an amateur, she won the 2014 European Ladies' Team Championship. Amateur career Broze was born in Feurs and grew up in Nervieux in the department of Loire, France. She had a successful amateur career and won the 2011 Championnat de France Minimes Filles, and in 2013 she won the German International Ladies Amateur Championship, the Trophee des Regions, and the Championnat de France Cadets. Shannon Aubert (born 1995) is a French amateur golfer. She was born in Annecy, France to a South African mother, Monica, and French father, Christian. She holds a South African, French and Irish passport, and speaks four languages fluently. Matilda Maria Castren (born 18 January 1995) is a Finnish professional golfer playing on the LPGA Tour. In 2021 she won the LPGA Mediheal Championship to become the first player from Finland to win on the LPGA Tour. Line Toft Hansen (born 31 July 1999) is a Danish professional golfer and member of the Ladies European Tour. Early life and amateur career Hansen started playing golf in 2007, taught by her grandfather. She played at Gilleleje Golf Club, where her parents owned the restaurant, and later switched to Hillerød Golf Club. Her brother, Morten Toft Hansen, is also a professional golfer. Puk Lyng Thomsen (born 15 April 1998) is a Danish professional golfer. As an amateur she won the 2017 French Ladies Amateur and finished second individually in the 2016 Espirito Santo Trophy. Amateur career Thomsen was born in Frederikshavn in 1998 and started playing golf when she was seven years old. At the age of 13, she was picked for the national team. Malene Krølbøll Hansen (born 1995) is a Danish professional golfer who plays on the Symetra Tour. Amateur career Krølbøll played for the National Team and represented Denmark in two European Girls' Team Championships and six European Ladies' Team Championships between 2011 and 2018, with best result a bronze medal in 2012.
