The 2016 American Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament was a tournament held March 4–7 in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Connecticut won their third straight American Athletic Conference title by defeating South Florida and earn an automatic trip to the NCAA women's basketball tournament. Seeds All the teams in the American Athletic Conference qualified for the tournament. Teams were seeded based on conference record, and then a tiebreaker system was used. Teams seeded 6–11 played in the opening round, and teams seeded 1–5 received a bye to the quarterfinals. The American Conference women's basketball tournament (sometimes known simply as The American Championship) is the conference tournament in women's basketball for the American Conference. History It is a single-elimination tournament that involves all league schools. Its seeding is based on regular season records. Uncasville, Connecticut
Uncasville is a village in the town of Montville, Connecticut, United States. It is located in southeastern Montville, at the mouth of the Oxoboxo River where it flows into the Thames River. The name is now applied more generally to all of the east end of Montville, which is the area served by the Uncasville ZIP Code (06382). In 1994, the federal government officially recognized the Mohegan Indian Tribe of Connecticut, which had historically occupied this area as part of its traditional territory.
