2016–17 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 2016–17 NCAA Division III men's ice hockey season began on October 28, 2016, and concluded on March 25, 2017. This was the 44th season of Division III college ice hockey. The Commonwealth Coast Conference, the primary league for six of the nine members of ECAC Northeast and one member of the NEHC, began sponsoring men's ice hockey this season. Because seven teams is the minimum requirement for a league to qualify for an automatic bid the new conference would be able to retain the qualifier formerly possessed by ECAC Northeast. The three remaining ECAC Northeast teams (Becker, Johnson & Wales and Suffolk) joined CCC as affiliate members for at least men's ice hockey. The NCAA also increased the number of participants in the National Tournament to twelve. Utica Memorial Auditorium
The Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium is a 3,860-seat multi-purpose arena in Utica, New York, with a capacity of 5,700 for concerts. Nicknamed the Aud, it is the home arena of the Utica Comets, the AHL affiliate of the NHL's New Jersey Devils, and Utica City FC of the Major Arena Soccer League. The arena along with the connecting Nexus Center, Utica City FC and Utica Comets are all currently managed by Mohawk Valley Garden. Geneseo State Knights
The Geneseo Knights (also known as the SUNY Geneseo Knights or the Geneseo State Knights) are composed of 19 varsity teams (7 men's 12 women's) representing the State University of New York at Geneseo (SUNY Geneseo) in intercollegiate athletics. All teams compete at the NCAA Division III level and all teams compete in the Empire 8 conference. Trinity Bantams
The Trinity Bantams are the varsity and club athletic teams of Trinity College, a selective liberal arts college located in Hartford, Connecticut. Trinity's varsity teams compete in the New England Small College Athletic Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. The College offers 27 varsity teams, plus club sports, intramural sports. Tufts Jumbos
The Tufts Jumbos are the varsity intercollegiate athletic programs of Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts. The Jumbos compete at NCAA Division III level as member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Like all Division III schools, Tufts does not offer athletic scholarships. Coed and women's sailing are the only Division I sports at the school. Tufts won the NACDA Directors' Cup in 2021–22 with the most successful athletic programs in NCAA Division III that year. The University mascot is named for Jumbo the elephant. P.T. Barnum donated this famous circus animal's stuffed hide to Tufts University, where it was displayed at the P.T. Barnum Hall for many years. New England College Pilgrims
New England College (NEC) is a private liberal arts college in Henniker, New Hampshire. It is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. As of fall 2020, the college enrolled 4,327 students (1,776 undergraduate and 2,551 graduate). History Founded in 1946, New England College was established to serve the needs of servicemen and women attending college on the G.I. Bill after World War II. In 1970, the college purchased the Tortington Park School for Girls in Arundel, in the English county of West Sussex. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). Using this mechanism, a student athlete (traditionally) has at most five academic years to use the four years of eligibility, thus becoming what is termed a fifth-year senior. Save percentage (often known by such symbols as SV%, SVS%, SVP, PCT) is a statistic in various Goal (sports), goal-scoring sports that track Save (goaltender), saves as a statistic. In ice hockey and lacrosse and association football, it is a statistic that represents the percentage of shot on goal (ice hockey), shots on goal a goaltender stops. It is calculated by dividing the number of saves by the total number of shots on goal. Although the statistic is a percentage, it is often given as a decimal in North America, in the same way as a batting average (baseball), batting average in baseball. Thus, .933 means a goaltender saved 93.3 percent of all shots they faced. Wisconsin–Stevens Point Pointers
The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point Pointers (casually known as the UW–Stevens Point Pointers) are the athletic teams of the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
