The 2016–17 Azerbaijan Cup is the 25th season of the annual cup competition in Azerbaijan. The final is set to be played on 5 May 2017. First round The First Round games were drawn on 6 October 2016. Second round The two winners of the First Round will progress to the Second Round, which was also drawn on 6 October 2016. Azerbaijan Cup
The Azerbaijan Cup () is a major association football competition in Azerbaijan. In its original form, it started in 1936, when Azerbaijan was a republic of the Soviet Union and it was not disputed by Azerbaijani teams in the Soviet league pyramid. Compared to major football competitions in many other countries, the tournament in Azerbaijan attracts considerably less public interest and even the cup final is rarely sold out. Consequently, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan has experimented with the format in order to raise the profile of the cup. Format The clubs from Azerbaijan First Division (2nd tier) play in the First Round. The winners of that round advance to the Second Round, where the clubs from Azerbaijan Premier League (1st tier) join. For the quarterfinals and the semifinals, the round-robin system is used. Vurgun Huseynov (; born 25 April 1988) is an Azerbaijani professional footballer. Career In the summer of 2013, Huseynov left Gabala and signed for Sumgayit. On 19 June 2023 Hüseynov signed a one-year contract with Kapaz. In July 2024, the club extended his contract for another year. The Azersun Arena or Tofiq Ismayilov Stadium, also referred as Surakhani Stadium () is a football stadium in Yeni Suraxanı, Baku, Azerbaijan, opened in June 2015.
