2015–16 Stony Brook Seawolves Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Stony Brook Seawolves men's basketball team represented Stony Brook University in the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Seawolves were led by the eleventh-year head coach Steve Pikiell and played their home games at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. They were members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 26–7, 14–2 in America East play to win the regular-season championship. Steve Pikiell
Stephen Christopher Pikiell ( ; born November 21, 1967) is an American college basketball coach and since March 16, 2016, the head men's basketball coach at Rutgers Scarlet Knights men's basketball, Rutgers. Prior to Rutgers, Pikiell was the head coach at Stony Brook Seawolves men's basketball, Stony Brook for over a decade, leading the Seawolves to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. In 2021, Pikiell led Rutgers to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 30 years. Early years and playing career Pikiell was born and raised in Bristol, Connecticut, and was one of nine children and graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol in 1986. At the University of Connecticut, Pikiell worked as a point guard, two-year captain and four-year letterwinner for the Connecticut Huskies men's basketball, Huskies from 1987 to 1991. 2015 College Basketball Invitational
The 2015 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 NCAA Division I teams that did not participate in the NCAA tournament or the NIT. The opening games and the quarterfinals were held in mid-March on the home courts of participating teams. After the quarterfinals, the bracket were reseeded. A best-of-three championship series between the two finalist teams was held, with Loyola-Chicago winning the title with a two-game sweep. One change from this year's CBI Tournament was the use of a 30-second shot clock (instead of a 35-second clock). The Fairfield Stags men's basketball team represents Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut and competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference of NCAA Division I.
