2015 World Championships In Athletics – Women's High Jump
The women's high jump at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 27 and 29 August. It took 1.92 to make the finals, and eight competitors made it cleanly. In the finals, only eight cleared 1.92; Ana Šimić, Doreen Amata, and Levern Spencer, who had jumped it in qualification, missed three times. 1.95 lost Jeanelle Scheper and Eleanor Patterson, but the remaining six all made it through three heights to 1.99. The National Stadium (), also known as the Bird's Nest (), is an 80,000-capacity stadium in Beijing. Marina Aleksandrovna Aitova, née Korzhova (born 13 September 1982) is a Kazakhstani high jumper. Her personal best jump is 1.99 metres, achieved in July 2009 in Athens. Biography Born in Karaganda, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union, Aitova made her first appearances on the world stage in 2003, competing at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2003 World Championships in Athletics, but she did not get beyond the qualifiers in either competition. Hestrie Cloete OIS (née Storbeck; born on 26 August 1978) is a former South African professional high jumper. Her foremost achievements were winning two world championships and two silver medals at the Olympic Games. Career Cloete was discovered at the age of 13 by her long-time coach Martin Marx, and trained at the Lichtenburg High School early in her career. She was quickly found to have a very strong will, which had given other coaches trouble while coaching her. Hestrie Cloete had always put a great significance in maintaining a strong mind, and explained that she finds much of that strength in her faith.
