2015 World Championships In Athletics – Men's High Jump
The men's high jump at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 28 and 30 August. In the trials, only nine were able to get over 2.31, so they took perfect to 2.29 to fill out the field. In the final, only seven were able to make 2.29 and at the next height 2.33 they were down to four, Derek Drouin, Bohdan Bondarenko, Zhang Guowei and Mutaz Essa Barshim all on their first attempt. In fact all but Barshim were perfect to that point. Nobody could make 2.36, which left a three way tie for first and Barshim, the odd man out. They did a fourth, jumpoff attempt at 2.36, nobody made it. The next step lowered the bar to 2.34. Drouin cleared it, putting do or die pressure on the others. Neither made it giving Drouin the gold and leaving a tie for silver. Derek Drouin
Derek Drouin (born March 6, 1990) is a Canadian track and field athlete who competes in the high jump. He won gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and was the 2015 World Champion. He also won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 Pan American Games, and won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships. Drouin was originally awarded the bronze at the 2012 Olympics which was retroactively changed to silver when the original gold medallist Ivan Ukhov was stripped of his medal for doping violations. He was belatedly presented with the upgraded silver in a presentation during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, one of 10 Olympians who were presented with “reallocated” medals from previous Olympics. Drouin's personal best jump of , set in 2014, is the Canadian record and ranks him joint eighth on the overall list. Jacques Freitag
Jacques Freitag (11 June 1982 – ) was a South African high jumper. Freitag is one of only eleven athletes (along with Valerie Adams, Usain Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Armand Duplantis, Yelena Isinbayeva, Kirani James, Faith Kipyegon, Jana Pittman, Dani Samuels, and David Storl) to win World Championship titles at the youth, junior, and senior levels of an athletic event. Freitag grew up in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng (50 km east of Pretoria). His mother, Hendrina Pieters, was South African high jump champion in 1973 with a personal best of 1.74 metres. Tim Forsyth
Tim Forsyth (born 17 August 1973 in Mirboo North, Victoria, Australia) is a retired Australian three-time Olympic high jumper: 1992, 1996, and 2000). Forsyth's first success on the international scene came in 1990 with a silver medal at the World Junior Championships. In 1992 a 19-year-old Forsyth won an Olympic bronze medal, equalling his then personal best height of 2.34m. He went on to win another World Junior Championships silver medal, this time beaten by Brit Steve Smith. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games Forsyth finished ahead of Steve Smith. His ultimate personal best jump of 2.36m was set in 1997, five months before he won his last global-event medal: A bronze at the World Championships in Athens. 2.36m was his ninth Australian record, and also the Oceanian area record. Patrik Sjöberg
Jan Niklas Patrik Sjöberg (; born 5 January 1965) is a Swedish former high jumper. He broke the world record with in Stockholm on 30 June 1987. This mark is still the European record and ranks him third on the world all-time list behind Javier Sotomayor and Mutaz Essa Barshim. He is also a former two-time world indoor record holder with marks of 2.38 m (1985) and 2.41 m (1987). He is the 1987 World Champion and a three-time Olympic medallist.
