2014–15 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2014–15 American Athletic Conference men's basketball season took place between November 2014 and March 2015. Practices began in October 2014, with conference play beginning in December, and the season ended with the 2015 American Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament. The season was the second since the split of the original Big East Conference into two separate leagues. This was the first season for East Carolina, Tulane, and Tulsa in American Athletic competition. Steve Masiello
Stephen John Masiello Jr. (born September 2, 1977) is an American college basketball coach and a former player. He is currently the associate head coach at St. John's. Masiello is a native of White Plains, New York. He graduated from Iona Grammar School in 1991 and attended Archbishop Stepinac High School for two years before transferring to the Harvey School in Katonah, New York. Masiello played collegiately as a walk-on at Kentucky for coaches Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith from 1996 to 2000. Though he rarely played, he was a member of two Final Four teams, including the 1997–98 Wildcats team that won the national championship. XL Center
The PeoplesBank Arena, (originally known as the Hartford Civic Center and formerly as the XL Center) is a multi-purpose arena and convention center located in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. Owned by the City of Hartford, it is managed by the quasi-public Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) under a lease with the city and operated by OVG. The arena is ranked the 28th largest among college basketball arenas. John Wooden Award
The John R. Wooden Award is an award given annually to the most outstanding men's and women's college basketball players. The Wooden Award program consists of the men's and women's player of the year awards, the Legends of Coaching Award, and recognizing All-America teams. The player of the year award was originally given only to men's basketball players starting in 1977 and expanded to women's players in 2004. Meanwhile, the Legends of Coaching Award was first presented in 1999. The awards are given by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. They are named in honor of John Wooden, the 1932 national collegiate basketball player of the year from Purdue. Wooden later taught and coached men's basketball at Indiana State and UCLA. Naismith College Player Of The Year
The Naismith College Player of the Year is "the most prestigious national award presented annually to the men's and women's college basketball players of the year," as chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors. It is named in honor of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. History and selection First awarded exclusively to male players in 1969, the award was expanded to include female players in 1983. Annually before the college season begins in November, a "watchlist" consisting of 50 players is chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club board of selectors, comprising head coaches, administrators and media members from across the United States. Quenton D. DeCosey Jr. (born August 8, 1994) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Rabotnički of the Macedonian First League. He played for Temple University men's basketball for four years before turning professional in 2016. William Frederick Cummings (born October 7, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for Galatasaray of the Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL). He played college basketball for Temple. Amida Abiola Brimah (born February 11, 1994) is a Ghanaian professional basketball player for Valencia of the Spanish Liga ACB. He played college basketball for the UConn Huskies. College career Brimah was on the Huskies' 2013–14 NCAA Championship team. In the first round of the tournament, vs St. Joe's, UConn trailed 67–70 with 39 seconds remaining when Brimah rebounded a missed shot and converted a 3 point play to send the game to overtime; UConn ultimately won the game in overtime. James Woodard (born January 24, 1994) is an American professional basketball player who plays for King Szczecin of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). Markus Kennedy (born August 3, 1991) is an American former basketball player. He played college basketball for the Villanova Wildcats and SMU Mustangs. College career Kennedy averaged 3.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a freshman at Villanova. After the season he opted to transfer to SMU to play under Larry Brown. Robert Austin Nichols (born September 20, 1994) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Memphis and the University of Virginia. Early years Nichols attended Briarcrest Christian School in Eads, Tennessee. While there, he was a four-time letterwinner and helped lead his team to the state championship game.
