2014 Georgian Local Elections
The 2014 Georgian local elections ( ka, საქართველოს ადგილობრივი თვითმმართველობის ორგანოების არჩევნები) were held on 15 June and 12 July 2014 to elect the councils of local government, ''sakrebulo'', mayors of 12 self-governing cities, as well as the governors, ''gamgebeli'', of 59 municipalities. Background The previous local election in Georgia was held in May 2010 and resulted in the overwhelming victory of the United National Movement (UNM) party, chaired by then-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. Kakha Kukava
Kakha Kukava ( ka, კახა კუკავა; born July 12, 1976, in Tbilisi) is a Georgian politician, former member of Parliament of Georgia and a leader of Free Georgia. Biography Kukava was born in Tbilisi on July 12, 1976. He graduated from the Tbilisi State University with a degree in law. Kukava held several governmental positions since the 1990s and practiced law when he worked as a lawyer until 2003. As a member of Conservative Party of Georgia he joined coalition with United National Movement and participated in Rose Revolution. Pikria Chikhradze
Pikria Chikhradze ( ka, ფიქრია ჩიხრაძე; born 27 April 1966) is a Georgian politician. She has been a senior figure in the opposition New Rights Party since 1999 and then in the Lelo for Georgia party, within which the New Rights merged in 2019. She was member of the Parliament of Georgia from 1995 to 2008 and political adviser to the President of Georgia from 2015 to 2018. Early life and career Born in the town of Oni in what was then Soviet Georgia, Chikhradze graduated from the Tbilisi State University (TSU) with a degree in philology in 1989 and from the Tbilisi Theological Academy with a degree in Christian Anthropology in 1993. List Of Municipalities In Georgia (country)
A municipality is a subdivision of Georgia, consisting of a settlement or community (თემი ''temi''), which enjoy local self-government. A total of 69 municipalities are registered as of January 2019. Five municipalities are entirely located in breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and are effectively not governed by Tbilisi. The remaining 64 are divided over five self-governing cities (ქალაქი ''kalaki'') and 59 self-governing communities. Background The municipalities were first established in 2006. Most of them were successors to the earlier subdivisions, known as '' raioni'' (რაიონი), 'districts'. In addition, new municipalities were formed to govern those settlements in the disputed entities of Abkhazia and South Ossetia that at the time remained under Georgia's control.
