2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification – OFC First Round
This page provides the summaries of the Oceania Football Confederation first round matches for 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification. Format In this round the four lowest ranked entrants played a single round-robin tournament from 22 to 26 November 2011, held in Apia, Samoa. The winner advanced to the 2012 OFC Nations Cup, scheduled for the Solomon Islands from 1–12 June 2012, to join the other seven teams which received a bye into the second round. The Nations Cup served as the second round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The qualification event was to be the football competition at the 2011 Pacific Games in Nouméa, New Caledonia. However, in June 2011, the format was amended, and the Pacific Games are no longer be part of the qualification process. Oceania Football Confederation
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. The OFC has little influence in the wider football world, either in terms of international competition or as a source of players for high-profile club competitions. Peter O'Leary (born 3 March 1972) is a New Zealand former Association football referee, previously of Wellington but now is residing in Hamilton. He operated in the Australian A-League and the New Zealand Football Championship, and his other occupation is as a teacher and deputy principal at Te Aroha College.
