2014 ANZ Championship Season
The 2014 ANZ Championship season was the seventh season of the ANZ Championship. The 2014 season began on 1 March and concluded on 22 June. With a team coached by Simone McKinnis, captained by Bianca Chatfield and also featuring Tegan Caldwell, Geva Mentor, Madison Robinson and Catherine Cox (netball), Catherine Cox, Melbourne Vixens won both the minor premiership and the overall championship. Vixens defeated Queensland Firebirds in both the major semi-final and the grand final as they won their second List of Australian netball premiers, premiership. They won their first in 2009 ANZ Championship season, 2009. ANZ Championship
The ANZ Championship, also known as the Trans-Tasman Netball League, is a former netball league featuring teams from both Australia and New Zealand. Between 2008 and 2016, it was the top-level league in both countries. The competition was owned and administered by Trans-Tasman Netball League Ltd (TTNL), a joint venture between Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand. It was effectively a merger of Australia's Commonwealth Bank Trophy and New Zealand's National Bank Cup. Its main sponsor was the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group. In 2008, New South Wales Swifts were the inaugural ANZ Championship winners. Queensland Firebirds were the most successful team during the ANZ Championship era, playing in five grand finals and winning three premierships in 2011, 2015 and 2016. Madison Robinson
Madison “Madi” Browne (born 5 January 1988) is an Australian netball player who has been one of the most successful Australian Netball players. Early life Madison Browne played for South Barwon Football and Netball Club when she was younger. Her sister Kelsey also played in A grade for South Barwon before joining Madison at the Magpies Netball in the Suncorp Super Netball league. Their father Mark played Australian rules football for Geelong in the 1970s. Domestic career Browne made her domestic league debut in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy in 2006, playing with the Melbourne Kestrels, before being signed by the Melbourne Vixens in 2008 to play in the ANZ Championship. She transferred to the West Coast Fever ahead of the 2009 season before rejoining the Vixens in 2011. Browne was awarded Most Valued Player at both the Fever and Vixens on two occasions. ''The Riverine Herald'' is a tri-weekly newspaper based in Echuca in Victoria's Goulburn Valley, servicing the Echuca-Moama area. The paper is owned by McPherson Media Group. Origins The newspaper was founded at Echuca on 1 July 1863, with its first editor as Robert Ross Haverfield (1819–1889) and joint owners James Joseph Casey (1831–1913) and Angus Mackay (1824–1886) - the latter also being one of the proprietors of the Bendigo Advertiser. Caitlyn Strachan
Caitlyn Nevins (born 1 June 1987), also known as Caitlyn Strachan, is a former Australia netball international. Between 2014 and 2016, she was a member of three successive ANZ Championship winning teams. She won her first title with the 2014 Melbourne Vixens before winning the 2015 and 2016 titles with Queensland Firebirds. She was a member of the Victorian Fury teams that won Australian Netball League titles in 2009, 2013 and 2014. Early life, family and education Strachan is the daughter of Lyn and Rob Strachan. She is originally from Victoria, born in Geelong and raised in Echuca. Between 1999 and 2004 she attended Echuca High School and between 2005 and 2008 she attended La Trobe University where she gained a Bachelor of Podiatry. Maddy Proud
Maddy Proud (born 4 December 1993), also known as Madeleine Proud, is an Australian netball player. Between 2011 and 2016, Proud played for Adelaide Thunderbirds in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017, she has played for New South Wales Swifts in Suncorp Super Netball. She captained the Swifts team that won the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball title. Australian Institute of Sport are a former Australian netball team based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. They were the netball team of the Australian Institute of Sport. They effectively acted as a development/under-21 team for the Australia national netball team. Between 1985 and 1996, AIS played in the Esso/Mobil Superleague. In 1985 and 1986 they finished as champions. Between 2003 and 2007, the AIS and Netball ACT entered a combined team known as AIS Canberra Darters in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy. Cody Lange
Cody Lange (born 24 October 1994) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Lange began her career at the Thunderbirds in 2011 and played at the club for six of the next seven seasons, missing only the 2013 season. The Victorian Netball League (VNL) is a state netball league featuring teams from Victoria, Australia. The league is organised by Netball Victoria, with the modern league beginning in 2009. It replaced an earlier state league as the top level netball competition in Victoria. On a national level, the VNL is effectively a third-tier league, below Suncorp Super Netball and the Australian Netball Championships. From 2009-2011, due to sponsorship and naming rights arrangements, the VNL was known as the Holden Cruze Cup. Between 2018-2020, the league was sponsored by Bupa and was known as the Bupa Victorian Netball League. Wendy Jacobsen
Wendy Jones (born 25 October 1978) is an Australian netball player. Jacobsen was captain of the Victorian Under 19 team in 1996–97 and the Under 21 team from 1997 to 1999, she represented Victoria from 1990 as an 11-year-old until 2011. She was a scholarship holder at the Australian Institute of Sport in 1997 and 1998. Also a member of the Australian national team from 2005 to 2008. She played in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy with the Melbourne Phoenix from 1998 to 2007, winning premierships in 2000, 2002–03 and 2005. With the start of the ANZ Championship in 2008, Jacobsen played with the Melbourne Vixens for the inaugural season. She was signed again for 2009, but a knee injury during the preseason ended her campaign. Jacobsen re-signed with the Vixens for 2010. 2009 ANZ Championship Season
The 2009 ANZ Championship season was the second season of the ANZ Championship. The 2009 season began on 4 April and concluded on 26 July. Melbourne Vixens were minor premiers. With a team co-captained by Bianca Chatfield and Sharelle McMahon, Vixens subsequently defeated Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 58–43 in the major semi-final and Adelaide Thunderbirds 54–46 in the grand final to finish as overall List of Australian netball premiers, premiers.
