2013–14 División De Honor Femenina De Waterpolo
The 2013–14 season was the 27th season of División de Honor, the top flight women's water polo in Spain since its inception in 1988. The season comprised regular season and championship playoff. The regular season started on October 19, 2013, and finished on May 3, 2014. When finish the regular season, top four teams at standings play championship playoff. Championship playoff began on May 14 with semifinals, playing the Finals around late May. Sabadell Astralpool won the twelfth title in its history, and fourth in a row by defeating (again as in previous season) Mataró La Sirena 2–0 in the Championship Finals. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive sport, competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the water polo ball, ball into the opposing team's goal (sport), goal. The team with more goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one Goalkeeper (water polo), goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep swimming pool, pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Ciara Gibson-Byrne (born 3 December 1992) is a British-Spanish water polo player playing as a right-wing. Born in Barcelona, Spain, to British parents she began playing water polo aged 11. Gibson-Byrne made her debut for the British team as a 17-year-old in 2010 and has played for CN Mataró in the División de Honor de Waterpolo and for the City of Manchester club based in the Manchester Aquatics Centre. Jennifer Pareja Lisalde (born 8 May 1984) is a former Spanish water polo player who won the gold medal at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, being named ''Most Valuable Player'' of the event. She was named 2013 Best Female Water Polo Player of the Year by FINA. Pareja competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics with the Spain national team in the women's event, winning the silver medal. She scored 12 goals and was named to the Olympic All-Star Team. She was the joint top sprinter at the 2012 Olympics, with 21 sprints won.
