2013 World's Strongest Man
The 2013 World's Strongest Man was the 36th edition of World's Strongest Man. The event was held in Haitang Bay, Sanya, China, the same host city as the 2006 World's Strongest Man contest. The qualifying heats were held from August 17–20 and the finals on Aug. 23 & 24. The event was sponsored by the Commerce Casino and will be broadcast in the United States on the CBS Sports Network. Brian Shaw from the United States placed first, winning his second WSM title after winning in 2011. Sanya
Sanya (; also spelled Samah) is the southernmost city on Hainan Island, and one of the four prefecture-level cities of Hainan Province in South China. IFSA Strongman World Championship
The International Federation of Strength Athletes (IFSA or IFSA Strongman) was an international governing body for strongman competition. IFSA operated from 1995-2007 and was based in Glasgow, Scotland. International Powerlifting Federation
The International Powerlifting Federation is an international governing body for the sport of powerlifting as recognized by the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). The IPF was founded in 1972, and comprises member federations from more than one hundred countries with new ones being added yearly. The current IPF president is Gaston Parage, from Luxembourg. Fortissimus
The Fortissimus is a defunct event in strength athletics. The name means "the mightiest" and was a multi-event challenge at the end of which the winner is crowned as the "Strongest Man on Earth". It was set up to bring together the strongest competitors on the planet independent of the organisations to which they were signed, and also as a tribute to the nineteenth-century Canadian strongman Louis Cyr, which gave it many similarities to Le Defi Mark Ten International which last took place in Canada in the early 1990s. The Strongman Champions League is a strongman competition circuit, with several Grand Prix events throughout the year and the Strongman Champions League overall champion title going to the overall winner at the end of the season. Žydrūnas Savickas (; born July 15, 1975) is a Lithuanian powerlifter and professional strongman. Due to his multiple championship wins in all major international strongman competitions, as well as his longevity in the sport, he is widely considered by many to be the greatest strength athlete of all time. Career Žydrūnas Savickas first became interested in strength sports after watching a Lithuanian strongman contest on TV in 1989. Mike Burke (born June 14, 1974) is an American professional strongman competitor from Aurora, Colorado. Mike won the 2012 All-American Strongman Challenge in January 2012. This victory qualified him for the 2012 Arnold Strongman Classic and he finished in 5th place. Burke placed third at the Giants Live event in Melbourne, Australia on March 17, 2012. This placing qualified Burke for the 2012 World's Strongest Man contest, however, he failed to make the finals.
