2013 Winter Universiade
The 2013 Winter Universiade, the XXVI Winter Universiade, was a winter multi-sport event which took place in Trentino, Italy between 11 and 21 December 2013. This was the first time that a Winter Universiade happened after the Summer Universiade in same the year and in the end of the year and missing two months for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Originally, it was planned to take place in Maribor, Slovenia in late January and early February, but the Government of Slovenia overturned its decision to partially fund the project due to financial problems in February 2012. In March 2012, the International University Sports Federation decided that it would organise the Universiade elsewhere. Monte Bondone is a mountain of Trentino, northern Italy, located west of the provincial capital of Trento. It has an elevation of and includes a ski resort on one side. It is the highest mountain of the Garda Mountains, Garda Prealps and with a prominence of qualifies as an Ultra prominent peak, Ultra. Ice Rink Piné (Italian: ''Stadio del ghiaccio di Piné'') is a speed skating oval and training facility located in , Baselga di Piné, Italy. The facility hosts the Italian national speed skating team. History The construction of the ice rink began in 1984 and was completed the following year. The official opening took place in January 1986 during an international ice speed skating competition. The Piné ice rink hosted the speed skating and curling competitions of the XXVI Winter Universiade of Trentino 2013 and the Junior Speed Skating World Championships in February 2019. Winter Universiade 2017, the XXVIII Winter Universiade, was a multi-sport winter event which took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 29 January to 8 February 2017.
