2012–13 Stony Brook Seawolves Men's Basketball Team
The 2012–13 Stony Brook Seawolves men's basketball team represented Stony Brook University in the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were coached by eighth year head coach Steve Pikiell and played their home games at Pritchard Gymnasium. They were members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 25–8, 14–2 in America East play to become America East regular season champions. They advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 America East men's basketball tournament, America East tournament where they lost to Albany. As a regular season conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the 2013 National Invitation Tournament, 2013 NIT. The Seawolves defeated Massachusetts in the first round for their first ever postseason tournament victory in school history. They lost in the second round to Iowa. Steve Pikiell
Stephen Christopher Pikiell ( ; born November 21, 1967) is an American college basketball coach and since March 16, 2016, the head men's basketball coach at Rutgers Scarlet Knights men's basketball, Rutgers. Prior to Rutgers, Pikiell was the head coach at Stony Brook Seawolves men's basketball, Stony Brook for over a decade, leading the Seawolves to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. In 2021, Pikiell led Rutgers to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 30 years. Early years and playing career Pikiell was born and raised in Bristol, Connecticut, and was one of nine children and graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol in 1986. At the University of Connecticut, Pikiell worked as a point guard, two-year captain and four-year letterwinner for the Connecticut Huskies men's basketball, Huskies from 1987 to 1991.
