2012 UCI Road World Championships
The 2012 UCI Road World Championships took place in the southern part of the Netherlands, Dutch province of Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg, also known as South Limburg (Netherlands), South Limburg, between September 15 and 23. The event consisted of a road race and a time trial for men, women and men under 23, and team time trials for elite men and women. It was the 79th Road World Championships. Castelfidardo near Loreto (AN), Loreto in Italy was also a candidate, but Italy had held the UCI Road World Championships in Varese in 2008. The Netherlands had last hosted the Road World Championships in 1998, in Valkenburg aan de Geul, and 2012 was the seventh time that the country hosted the championships. The 2012 championships had a number of changes compared to the former editions. A team time trial was reintroduced. Valkenburg Aan De Geul
Valkenburg aan de Geul (; ) is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality situated in the southeastern Dutch Provinces of the Netherlands, province of Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg. Sittard-Geleen (; ) is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in the southeastern Netherlands. It was formed in 2001 from the former municipalities Sittard, Geleen and Born (Netherlands), Born. The combined municipality has approximately 92,650 inhabitants (January 2024) and is thus the third most populated municipality in Limburg (after Maastricht with 125,000 and Venlo with 103,000 inhabitants). Sibbe (Limburgish: ''Sub'' or ''Süp'') is the official Dutch name of a village in the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul in the province of Limburg in the southern part of the Netherlands. Bemelen
Bemelen (; ) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is part of the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten, and lies about 5 km east of Maastricht. The village was first mentioned in 1096 as Bemele. The etymology is unknown. Bemelen is a village on the eastern flank of the Maas valley along the Roman road from Maastricht to Aachen. Until 1794, it was a ''heerlijkheid'' of the in Maastricht. The Catholic St Laurentius Church is a single aisled church. The tower has 12th century elements. The Men's time trial of the 2012 UCI Road World Championships cycling event took place on 19 September 2012 in Limburg, Netherlands. 2012 UCI Road World Championships – Women's Time Trial
The Women's time trial of the 2012 UCI Road World Championships cycling event took place on 18 September 2012 in and around Valkenburg, Netherlands. Judith Arndt of Germany defended successfully her world time trial title. The 36-year-old, who retired at the end of the championships, completed the hilly course in a time of 32 minutes 26 seconds to beat former teammate Evelyn Stevens of the United States by 33 seconds. Stevens had been the seventh last to start, and her time of 33 minutes dead took the lead from teammate Ellen van Dijk of the Netherlands. Eijsden-Margraten
Eijsden-Margraten (; ) is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality situated in the very south of the Netherlands. There it is located in the southeastern part of the Provinces of the Netherlands, province of Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg.
