2012 Pakistan Factory Fires
Factories in Pakistan's list of cities in Pakistan by population, two largest cities of Karachi and Lahore caught fire on 11 September 2012. The fires occurred in a textile factory in the western part of Karachi and in a shoe factory in Lahore. The fires are considered to be the most deadly and worst industrial factory fires in history of Pakistan, Pakistan's history, killing 289 people and seriously injuring more than 600. Baldia Town () is an administrative sub-division within Keamari District of Karachi Division in Sindh Province of Pakistan. Baldia Town lies in the western part of the city with a population of 948,399 as of the 2023 Pakistani census. Pakistan has one of the largest labour and manpower resources in the world, due to its large population, which is the fifth largest in the world. According to data produced by the CIA World Factbook, the total number of Pakistan's labour force is 57.2 million, making it the ninth largest country by available human workforce. About 43% of this labour is involved in agriculture, 20.3% in industry and the remaining 36.6% in other services. ''Business Recorder'' is an English-language financial daily newspaper in Pakistan, founded by Muhammad Ahmed Zuberi in 1965. The publication is owned by the Business Recorder Group. Newspaper founder's eldest son, Wamiq Zuberi, is the editor of the newspaper, and chief executive officer of the Business Recorder Group. Labor rights or workers' rights are both legal rights and human rights relating to labor relations between workers and employers.
